Affordable Swimwear + Some Buying Tips

Cute and affordable swimwear roundup

I’m not sure who decided swimsuits should cost more than designer denim or designer shoes that you get a lot of wear out of but I can tell you that I am so not down with swimsuits that cost $200, $300 or $400. I have personally come to loathe swimwear shopping because I think finding affordable swimwear that actually makes you feel good can be rather difficult. While I am all about investment pieces at this stage in my life, an investment swimsuit is just not going to be in the cards for me due to an extremely high cost per wear.

With this sentiment in mind, this month’s Affordable Finds post is entirely dedicated to swimwear! All of the styles included are under $150 and most offer extended sizing. I hope today’s post makes you excited about the season ahead!

Affordable Swimwear + Some Buying Tips

SHOP THE POST:

  1. The top of this one is really cute and as I note below, its a great brand for us ladies with larger chests. I own it in white.
  2. This navy off the shoulder one piece is so chic.
  3. The wrap detail of this one piece is incredibly flattering.
  4. If you prefer to cover up your mid-section a bit more, this peplum one piece is a great style.
  5. The little ruffle details are adorable on this suit.
  6. The pattern on this two piece is so fun and I really like the high waisted bottoms.
  7. The color blocked look of this one is another really flattering look. My girlfriends and I all LOVE this brand. Their suits are so flattering. I recommend sizing up.
  8. I like the one shoulder look of this suit and it comes in a ton of fun colors. It is a simple yet chic suit.
  9. The deep V of this suit is a fun look for a pool party or bachelorette this summer.
  10. I’m loving the high neck trend in swimwear over the last year or so. This striped suit is a cute version.
  11. Old Navy does a nice job of keeping their swimwear available in a ton of sizes. This striped two piece goes up to an XXL.
  12. The ruffle and tie detail on this two piece is so fun. Love the burgundy color, too!
  13. Love the subtle pattern on this white two piece.
  14. A classic bikini from one of my favorite brands that will never go out of style.
  15. The belt detail on this one piece is very on trend and you can’t beat the price of this one.

Some additional stylish options:

And I couldn’t forget cover ups and other necessary beach accessories!

A few notes on brands  and shopping for swimwear:

I personally really like L Space’s sizing for tops because they go up to D and F cups in certain styles. I’ll buy one of their plain tops and pair it with an inexpensive bottom that matches from somewhere like Old Navy to keep the cost down.  In advance of my recent trip to Southern California I bought about $1,000 worth of swimwear to try on loads of styles and narrow down to a few I liked. The ones I ended up keeping are in this post and I have to say I really like each of them. They were the first swimsuits I tried on in years that didn’t make me feel badly about myself. (These efforts have also helped but swimsuit try ons are still, regardless, tough.)

As far as tips for buying swimwear, my best recommendation is to order the styles you like in multiple sizes and return what doesn’t work. This is often what I recommend for people for denim, too. It will also help you see how pieces from brands can mix and match. Be sure you review size charts carefully for every brand you’re ordering from to help minimize ill-fitting pieces. Adore Me is best known for lingerie but I found they have loads of cute swimwear, too in lots of sizes besides your regular XS-Large. I’ve also been loving the swim selections from Old Navy and J.Crew so far this season.

p.s. warm weather pieces for under $150 and Amazon Fashion finds under $150.

I love your picks, and tips to find a great affordable swimsuit! My parents used to have a house in FL, so I totally understand why you shouldn’t spend a lot of money on a swimmy. They kind of get destroyed if you are constantly beaching and pooling ahah. But, J. Crew is having an amazing sale on sale, and I got a pink seersucker highwaisted two piece for only $15!! Isn’t that insane! And I know it will be great quality, too!!
Happy Monday, and I hope it is better than last week 🙂

  2. Could not agree more. I am all about investing in good underwear I wear every day, but I just cannot justify designer swimwear! To be honest I completely avoided swimwear shopping for years for the same reason as you (easy to do when you live in England and don’t have a beach nearby) and just relied on an Agent Provocateur bikini I’d got in the Net-a-Porter sale years ago for about 70% off (they go up to an E cup so if you can find them on sale they are great), but last year I tried J.Crew’s swimwear and I have to say it was amazing!! I ended up getting a navy set of this ruffle top (that is supportive and actually fits a big chest) and the high-waisted bottoms (that again are supportive and don’t make me feel too self conscious) https://www.jcrew.com/uk/p/womens_category/swimwear/highwaisted-bikini-bottom-in-tiny-gingham/H7661?color_name=mini-gingham-white-emera. Cannot recommend them enough for my fellow busty/curvy ladies.
