Some Favorite Fall Wardrobe Classics

Fall Basics Pieces I wit & whimsy

I have spent years building out a wardrobe of Fall classics that can be mixed and matched. I love investing in staples that are well-made basics that I can mix and match all Fall. A lot of the pieces I invest in I like to wear even well past Fall, too.

Fall Wardrobe Classics

This outfit is a great example of a very mainstay Fall Wardrobe Classics outfit. A great cashmere sweater, layered with an oversized blazer, a pair of jeans I feel great in and some simple accessories. The Agolde Toni Jeans are my very favorite skinny jeans – they have the perfect crop to go with a variety of shoes.  This look is streamlined, chic and yet effortless to put together.

Easy ways to swap out this outfit would be to change the flats for a pair of ankle boots. If I added ankle boots, I could also sub in a great utility jacket in a pretty olive green for this outfit, too. I love pairing a denim shirt underneath a utility jacket this time of year. You could also add a wide leg jean if skinny jeans aren’t your thing. Or I love doing white jeans with a utility jacket or even an oversized denim jacket.

Heeled ankle booties not your style? Try a Chelsea boot!

Want a more feminine approach? Try adding a long sleeve sweater with a ruffle detail or interesting neckline and swap out the shoes for a pair of classic ballet flats in a neutral color. I wear my favorite ballet flats all year long!

Fall fashion may not be the most interesting, but it sure is my favorite. All summer long I wait to pull out my favorite sweaters – cozy sweaters, chunky sweaters, cardigans, all my favorite cashmere – come August I literally can’t wait to don my favorite Fall classics.

After I wrote my recent post about my favorite cashmere, a few of you shared you really like Bloomingdale’s brand Aqua’s cashmere so I decided to get a piece when they had a recent sale and I found the perfect puff sleeve sweater. You know I love a puff sleeve! It actually has a little shoulder pad insert to make it more pronounced which I love. The brand has loads of cute cashmere pieces at the moment. Thanks to those of you who recommended the brand! I also have this one and love it. Seen here.

A few other Aqua Cashmere Favorites:

I paired the solid color sweater with a classic plaid Everlane blazer that I bought just before I worked on this blazer campaigns with them and some other MVPs of my wardrobe.

This blazer is a favorite piece of mine and such a good layering piece for the Fall season. If blazers aren’t your jam, you could sub it out for a leather jacket which is another wardrobe staples of mine and certainly a Fall wardrobe essential.

As you build your wardrobe for Fall, think about: what are the pieces you can mix and match, that are high quality investment pieces, that you’ll wear a lot of ways and what are pieces that aren’t too trendy. Also think about comfort! What are you most likely to wear?

I feel like the weather went from mid-60s to like below freezing within hours! I had to dig out my big winter parka and everything!! Brrrrrr ahahah.. but this look is so cute, and can still work even though its chilly!! You could try a white sneaker or bootie for more warmth on the feet! 🙂 Happy Monday, Meghan!!
