Inside Le Grand Appartement Sezane I wit & whimsy

I first discovered the French brand Sezane on a trip to Paris in 2014. Since then visiting their store in the 2nd arrondissement is always on my list each trip. In addition to beautiful clothes, the brand’s brick & mortar stores are a masterclass in merchandising. Hence why you can often expect to be greeted by a line to enter following the brand’s popularity exploding in recent years. In 2019 the brand opened its second store in Paris, in the more local-feeling neighborhood of the 8th arrondissement (which happens to be a personal favorite given when I studied abroad in Paris my school was in the 8th).

The new store – aptly named Le Grand Appartement Sezane – is strikingly large and beautiful upon entry. I first previewed it when in Paris in November and was eager to return to see new pieces and updates made in the store since it opened. The brand was kind enough to allow me to pop by before opening to capture the store to share it with you guys.

In addition to the brand’s clothing and accessories, they also have a section dedicated to tokens curated from like-minded brands. You’ll find fun little impulse purchases from globally sourced brands offering items such as notebooks, pins and beauty products.

Upon arriving in Paris you’ll be hard pressed to go even just a few short blocks without spotting one of Sezane’s many popular bags on the shoulders of Parisian women throughout the city. I own this one and love it.

Sezane’s knitwear is one of my favorite offerings from the brand. Sizes do vary so my best recommendation is to order two sizes. I am a Medium in most but for those sweaters that are billed as oversized I often size down to a Small.

In the iconic Sezane Gaspard sweater that can be worn both frontwards and backwards. I own it in two colors now. Wearing a size Small. This sweater is part of their Essentials collection. This collection is made up of essential French-inspired pieces the brand keeps in stock year round (when they’re not sold out that is ;)). My other beloved Sezane piece is their Tomboy shirt. I wear it so much and it is one of the best button downs I’ve ever owned. I own size 40.

Le Grand Appartement Sezane also boasts a selection of vintage clothing and jewelry that the Sezane team sources from flea markets and vintage stores and restores to re-sell.

For reference, you’ve seen me wear Sezane here, here, here & here as a few examples and in general I talk about it a lot. I love that the founder is female and that they are choosing to market and expand the brand in new and interesting ways. Retail can be so hard to innovate in and Sezane has set the bar high when it comes to making clothing and accessories women can get excited about again and again. Also in new news from Sezane, they’ve just expanded into menswear as well. Their new mens brand is called Octobre and selects can be found in existing Sezane stores and can also be shopped online.

For sizing guidance when shopping Sezane online, I tend to opt for size 38 or 40 in FR sizes in tops and dresses given I have a larger bust. But as mentioned before, if you’re keen to try the brand out, I recommend ordering 2 sizes of a particular item you’re really excited about. Sezane typically does free shipping to the U.S. on orders over $200 and they’ll do free returns, too.

A few Sezane favorites at the moment:

And while you’re in the neighborhood, I highly recommend you check out Musée Marmottan Monet and the beautiful, but often missed Parc Monceau.

p.s. Some of my wardrobe favorites under $200 and why you should consider staying in an apartment in Paris.
