2024 Goals and Priorities

Every year I look forward to sitting down and writing this post. I’m someone who is very goal oriented and rather self disciplined when it comes to seeking out the things my heart desires.

2024 Goals and Priorities

At the onset of every year, I like to reset by reflecting on the twelve months in the rear view mirror and then look towards those ahead. I I typically start a short list of goals I’m thinking of initially on my Notes app in the Fall every year. This helps me as ideas for the forthcoming year start to come into focus.

Then, I sit down the first week of January and really think through everything I’d like to accomplish with the clean slate that is a new year.

I personally prefer to focus on goals and priorities vs. “resolutions.” I like to set goals that feel a bit aspirational and yet still feel achievable and priorities that serve as reminders to me throughout the year when I revisit this list for a gut check on how I’m progressing.

I also like picking a word to level set for the year ahead.

LOL that I chose the word POSSIBILITY for 2023 and then my year rained down with a lot of negativity. Therefore I learned a valuable lesson and will choose to be more specific this year as I select the word ABUNDANCE.

In 2024 I want an abundance of love, of work with intention, of integrity, of friendship, of kindness, of laughter and of goodwill.

In 2023 I felt a lot of external forces trying to break me. To undermine me. To deter me. This year I vow to keep reminding myself I am stronger than I realize. That I am not broken. What’s meant for me will not miss me. And I am capable of more than I can even imagine.

Take an actual vacation.

Adding this to the top of my list again because I didn’t do it last year as I had promised myself I would. When I did this for the first time in my self employed history since 2016 in September of 2022, it was major for me. I took nine days off! No posting to social media and no emailing. It was so, so good for my mental health!

I’m once again considering Mallorca but I am also feeling the call back to Italy this year…thoughts?!

Explore France further.

I absolutely love traveling in France and 2023 was so fruitful in this area! Last year I visited Bordeaux, the Loire Valley, Champagne, Giverny, Provence, St. Tropez, Lyon and Marseille. This year I hope to make it to Normandy for a longer period of time and plan to return to the South of France again in the Spring.

Read 30 books.

Last year I had to do a lot of reading that was *not* enjoyable. This year I want to re-prioritize reading for fun. I only made it through 15 of the 40 books I had hoped to read in 2023. So we’re lowering the goal and hoping for a few pages for enjoyment every day in some form.

Go on a yoga retreat.

Doing hot yoga weekly whenever I am home is a form of therapy for me. It’s so cleansing and a place I find real stillness and strength. In 2019 I went on a retreat upstate New York with my friend Bekka and we had such a wonderful time. I would love to go on another this year if I can find the time and the right fit for place and instructor.

Take French lessons.

I really, really need to improve my French. I want to get a tutor this year who can help me be more accountable and assist in the areas I most need help in. (If you have any tutor recommendations please email them to me!)

Continue therapy.

Starting talk therapy in 2023 was a godsend. I got really uncomfortable and made some good progress in the areas that were of the biggest focuses to me. I am looking forward to continuing to prioritize this in 2024.

Hone in on habits and systems.

I really, really want to spend time working on my focus this year. And I want to think differently, do things differently. Especially when it comes to my work. I want to go outside my norms and experiment when it comes to content practices and how I have been doing things for a long time. What could change? Be improved? I want to be less afraid to fail if I try something new. I want to learn into having found my purpose.

Reading this book is majorly helping inspire me to start the year.

As a priority, I really need to stop bouncing back and forth between my two businesses on a day to day basis. It is disruptive to my productivity and I know I could really improve here.

Improve my photography and videography.

Photography has been a passion of mine since high school and I am so grateful it is involved in my work and can be seamlessly woven into my travels.

This year I’d like to improve both my photography – shooting more on my Sony camera and I’d really like 2024 to be the year I get better at video production. I’m considering InShot and Lightroom courses but would be open to any recommendations you guys may have!

Hire a financial planner.

This has been on my list for ages and I’d like 2024 to be the year I finally get some additional guidance on financial planning. (If anyone has someone that they love that helps them – please email me! Even better if they are familiar with self employed persons.)

Throw a housewarming.

Even though I moved into my apartment more than two years ago, I never did a housewarming and I really want to finally do one! There’s so few reasons to throw parties in life so I don’t want to miss a good opportunity.

Refresh my NYC guide.

It’s been over a year now since I updated my NYC guide and I want to refresh it with new favorites discovered last year and break out my Manhattan vs. Brooklyn recommendations.

Make time for quiet and for romanticizing life.

Life last year was full.of.noise. This year I’d like more quiet. More time for my favorite routines and habits. For truly enjoying the little things in life.

Relatedly, I want to make more time for personal growth. Listening to podcasts, reading self help books, having productive conversations with friends and colleagues.

Complete BBG again.

I’ve never felt stronger or more confident in my body than when I completed the Sweat app BBG programs. But 12 weeks is a long time and given my travel schedule these days it may be very difficult to complete. I would love to do it though as a complement to my Peloton and yoga workouts. We shall see!

Go to the Ballet/Opera in Paris and New York City.

Aside from seeing The Nutcracker, I have never been to the ballet in New York City, nor the Opera. I want this to be the year I do both!

Create a NYC Bucket List.

I have so many spots saved on my Google Map of New York City but often when planning outings end up at the same favorites. This year I committed to really ticking through those new spots I’ve been wanting to try when making plans while at home. I created a bucket list of spots I *really* want to try on my phone and am going to keep it updated and refer to it often.

Continue meditation.

I made a lot of progress with my meditation last year. I put it on my to do list a lot of days to ensure I made time for the habit. Often, I only do it for 10 minutes but it always, always helps. As someone with anxiety, quieting my mind is a massive endeavor and this is a practice that helps. I really love the Peloton meditations but also use the Calm app.

Volunteer.

Before the pandemic I used to be pretty good at carving out 1-2 volunteer opportunities in my community. But with re-entry and a new career in travel these sorts of things fell off my radar. I’d like to find a great, in-person volunteer opportunity in New York City this year where I can give back.

Sticking to my boundaries.

I’ve made loads of progress in this area in recent years but I still have work to do.

I need to get better about tuning out the opinions of those who don’t matter. Do less people pleasing. I want to be stronger with saying no. (And when I do not feeling badly I did!!) I want to protect my time better. I’m going to share less with the wrong people. I want to remember that even if the criticism comes, my work and my intentions are worth it.

. . .

So there you have it!

I of course also have a huge list of business goals I am planning working towards this year. I keep those on a Note in my phone so I can regularly check in on them and track progress.

I’m a big believer in where attention goes, energy flows. This year I am working to really prioritize this mantra and I hope this posts inspires you as well!

If you have a goal or life priority for 2024 you’re willing to share, I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

This is a great year to see New York City Ballet, as they are celebrating their 75th Anniversary.

the winter season, which starts next week, features works from their in-house choreographers other than Balanchine.

the Spring season features more contemporary works.

but their “greatest hits” are sprinkled throughout: Symphony in C, Serenade, and Jewels (Emeralds, Rubies & Diamonds)

Until you get a ticket, you can see NYCB’s performance in Madrid which includes Serenade if you have PBS Passport (their on-demand platform).
I’m not as familiar with ABT

Sign me up to be your plus one on the NYC bucket list. I’ve started one and want to check out all the random museums and things now that I’m HERE!

Thank you for sharing your goals for the year. My word is AESTHETE. I need to find beauty in everything, including the small stuff. As a fellow traveler for work it can be hard to carve out time to take care of yourself. I’ve found that I had to commit to a 20 minute workout everyday on the word. I found I actually did more. I plan to keep that up for 2024. I also am thinking of doing a yoga retreat for January in Urguay. I used to do them all the time but fell back with life and caregiving my aunt. I recently read the book Your Brain on Art and it made me realize I need more art in my life. I should look into the ballet or opera in Paris since I’m there 3-4 times a year. I haven’t done is since 2008.

I love this list of intentions and your 2024 word!! Bring on more of the things that make us feel good 🙂 Thank you for sharing!

  5. Thank you for the inspiration! My word for 2024 is REGENERATE. I want to look at different ways to breathe new life into everything valuable – like nature, health, and my long forgotten interests.
