For years, one of my favorite rituals whenever I’m in Paris has been wandering the aisles of a French pharmacy. I never leave France without a suitcase full of skincare, sunscreen, haircare and beauty products.
The good news? You no longer have to wait until your next trip to Paris to experience many of the very best French pharmacy brands.
While there are still plenty of products I prefer to buy in France thanks to better pricing, larger selections and a few Europe-exclusive formulas, many of my longtime favorites are now available online in the U.S.
Whether you’re building your first French skincare routine or simply restocking a favorite product, these are the French pharmacy brands I think are most worth knowing.

The Best French Pharmacy Brands You Can Buy Online

What Makes French Pharmacy Brands So Popular?
French pharmacies have earned an almost cult-like reputation because they focus on effective, science-backed skincare instead of flashy marketing.
Many of the formulas were originally developed alongside dermatologists and pharmacists and are designed to support healthy skin rather than overwhelm it with unnecessary ingredients.
Another reason beauty lovers stock up whenever they visit France? European formulations, particularly sunscreens, often feature newer UV filters and a wider assortment of products than what’s currently sold in the U.S.
So all that being said, while not every French pharmacy brand is available stateside, these are the ones I think are most worth shopping online if you’re looking to bring a bit of French skincare into your routine.
1. La Roche-Posay
Best for: Sensitive skin, acne-prone skin and SPF
If someone asked me to recommend only one French pharmacy brand to start with, this (or Caudalie) would probably be it.
I have used La Roche-Posay for years and always keep several of their products in my skincare rotation. Their Cicaplast Balm B5 is one of my favorite barrier repair creams and has saved my skin countless times after irritation or over-exfoliation.
I also love their Anthelios sunscreen collection, particularly the European formulas that I always stock up on whenever I’m in France.
Don’t miss:
2. Avène
Best for: Sensitive or reactive skin
Avène’s Thermal Spring Water has become one of those products I never travel without.
I keep the mini size in my handbag during the summer and especially love using it on hot days after walking around Paris or sitting on a sweltering subway platform.
Their skincare is incredibly gentle and ideal if your skin tends to become irritated easily.

3. Bioderma
Best for: Cleansing
Bioderma’s Sensibio Micellar Water is arguably one of the most iconic French pharmacy products ever made.
It removes makeup beautifully without stripping the skin and remains my favorite micellar water after trying countless alternatives.
If you’ve never tried French pharmacy skincare before, this is an easy place to begin.
4. Caudalie
This has long been one of my favorite French beauty brands.
I use several Caudalie products every single day, including the Vinoperfect Serum (nothing better for brightening and diminishing dark spots!) and Premier Cru Rich Cream, and I regularly recommend the Instant Detox Mask to anyone dealing with congested skin. (It is a product I always reach for when I am resetting after travel).
Whenever I’m shopping at CityPharma I always browse their shelves because France often carries additional products and gift sets that never make it to U.S. retailers.
My favorites
- Vinoperfect Serum
- Vinoperfect Essence
- Instant Detox Mask
- Beauty Elixir (one of my favorite travel essentials)
- Premier Cru Rich Cream
- Premier Cru Eye Cream

5. Embryolisse
Few moisturizers have the reputation that Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré does.
French makeup artists have relied on it for decades because it works beautifully as both a moisturizer and a makeup primer.
I personally always buy the mini size because it’s perfect for travel.
6. NUXE
The original Huile Prodigieuse remains one of my all-time favorite French beauty purchases.
I use it on my body, cuticles and occasionally through the ends of my hair. It absorbs beautifully without feeling greasy.
Their Rose Micellar Water is another longtime favorite in my skincare routine. I always use it as a second cleanse after removing makeup. It’s one of those products I buy at least one bottle of every time I’m in France.
7. Klorane
If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you probably already know my feelings about Klorane Dry Shampoo.
I’ve gone through dozens of bottles over the years and still think it’s one of the best dry shampoos on the market.
Whenever I’m in Paris I buy both full-size and travel-size bottles because I truly never want to run out.
8. Erborian
Technically a French-Korean skincare brand, Erborian deserves a place on this list because their BB Cream is one of the best complexion products I’ve ever used.

I always recommend picking up the BB Cream and the CC Red Correct cream if you’re curious about the brand.
9. Filorga
I’m generally not a sheet mask person, but Filorga is my exception.
Their Time-Filler masks are one of the products I consistently bring home from France because they leave my skin noticeably smoother and more hydrated.
10. Vichy
Vichy is another dermatologist-loved French pharmacy brand that often flies under the radar in the U.S. but is beloved by my French friends.
11. A313
This cult-favorite French retinoid cream has become one of the most talked-about French pharmacy products in recent years. I use it nearly every night and have found it incredibly effective for keeping breakouts at bay while improving my skin’s overall texture and glow. I’m thrilled it’s finally much easier to buy in the U.S.
Brands I’d Still Prefer to Buy in France
Even though many of these brands are available online today, I still wait until I’m in France whenever possible because:
- Prices are usually significantly lower.
- The selection is much larger.
- Many European-exclusive formulas aren’t sold in the U.S.
- Travel sizes and limited editions are easier to find.
- European sunscreen formulas remain superior in my opinion.
Where I Buy French Pharmacy Brands Online
- Dermstore – my favorite place for French skincare because they carry a wide assortment and frequently run sales.
- Amazon – I recommend purchasing only from official brand storefronts.
- Bluemercury – carries a great array of Caudalie but also has Sisley Paris as well.
- Sephora – great for Caudalie and trial size products.
- Ulta – carries an amazing array of French pharmacy beauty brands including La Roche-Posay, Avène, Erborian and Vichy.
- Target – perfect if you’re already placing a household order.
