My Favorite Face Oils

February 21, 2018

The Best Face Oils I wit & whimsyI often get skincare questions from you guys (I answered a lot recently here) and in the past when I have spoken about face oils I get a bit of “but I have oily skin why on earth would I add oil?” And trust me, I get it! Face oils can actually go a long way though in making your skin feel hydrated, smooth and radiant. I see them as little magic potions and today I wanted to share a few favorites.

Even if you have oily skin, don’t shy away from a face oil – just take time to find the right one. When you find the right one you won’t deal with added sebum or breakouts which we often blame oil for. If you’re too nervous to add an oil into your routine under makeup or as your last step of your nighttime routine, I recommend adding a drop or two to your tinted moisturizer or foundation. It’ll sheer it out but also instantly give a bit of glow. Test this for a few weeks and pay attention to how your skin feels/reacts.

I’ve been using face oils for about six years at this point and I truly can’t imagine my skincare routine without them! Over the years I’ve tried quite a few but I now rely on these three. If I had to choose just one I’d keep the Rodin but all three of the below are truly so good. And hey, I like to switch things up!

RODIN Luxury Face Oil

If you’ve been following wit & whimsy for a few years you know I consider this face oil gold. (It’s on my holy grail list.) It’s got cult status for a reason and while it has a steep price tag I can assure you I have found it to be worth every penny. After using regularly your skin will look so luminous. It has 11 essential oils (therefore it smells amazing) and really hydrates skin.

True Botanicals Pure Radiance Oil

This stuff goes to work right away and made me a believer in this much-buzzed about brand. Whenever my skin is feeling dry or rough, I add this into my routine. It is said to aid in minimizing wrinkles and shrink large pores (both things I am wildly aware of on my face!) It is packed with a variety of oils that offer loads of vitamins and acids that repair skin and strengthen it. (I also really like their cellular repair serum!)

Malaya Organics Rejuvenating Face Serum

I can’t say enough good things about this oil. On days when I go makeup free this + SPF are pretty much the only thing I put on my face. This oil has 26 active botanical ingredients and goes on super lightweight but also absorbs really well which is what makes it great for daytime wear. (Some oils tend to be slick. For example, my skin isn’t able to wear the RODIN one during daytime. although I have some friends who do apply it before makeup.) My skin drinks this oil up and looks so glowy, smooth and even after use.  (I’ve talked about this brand’s body oil before too. It does wonders on sunburn!) I love, love, love this stuff.

. . .

So tell me, do you use a face oil? If so, what has your experience been?

I love face oils, and my favorite, hands down, is from a British company, Votary. I think they’re a really well kept secret because I never see them on people’s lists, but their products (it’s a small line) are outstanding and so luxurious, but work so well. And I have super sensitive skin, so I’m really picky about what I put on my face. I personally think it’s even better than Rodin, and while still a little pricy, less than Rodin and worth every penny.
My other favorite oil indulgence is straight up Frankincense essential oil. I use DoTerra, and just a drop or two by itself, or in combo with my Votary oil or lotion, just makes skin glow.

I don’t know this brand but am going to look into them ASAP! Especially because I too experience skin sensitivity. Thank you so much for sharing your favs, Marcia!
