Comfort Dressing + My New Favorite Coat

Classic Camel Coat I wit & whimsy

If I had to sum up my 2020 style it would be “comfort dressing”. Beyond the literal fact that I’ve worn more loungewear and athleisure this year, when I do get dressed as I used to (pre-pandemic), I go towards comfort styles. Those outfits and pieces that just make me feel good. True to my personal style, put together, chic yet effortless. Today’s outfit personifies Fall Comfort Dressing for me.

In a year where so much seems out of my control, there’s been comfort in my ability to get up and get dressed up in pieces that make me feel better. As trivial as it may sound, I think there’s power in getting dressed in clothes that make you feel good.

One of the best classes I took in college was all about the material world affects our brain chemistry. It’s why you feel better after shopping or after a great meal. Because they affect your serotonin levels and makes you feel happier. Putting on an outfit that makes me feel good is an immediate booster. So every time I leave the house I’ve been reaching for the pieces and looks I miss wearing. Nothing over the top (and still miss my stilletos – ha!)

The Eileen Fisher team was so kind to send me this coat after I posted about it on Instagram Stories (their Instagram is a favorite brand to follow. I find so many brand IG accounts so sterile and uninspiring but Eileen Fisher does a great mix of commenting on social issues, spotlighting their team, elevating their product and missions and posting items that empower and inspire).

Eileen Fisher’s pieces are pricey but so beautifully made and worth the investment.

(You’ve heard me talk about this so much – most recently here – but I’d rather one great cashmere sweater I can wear for many years vs. six fast fashion ones that’ll get tossed out after a season or two).

The moment I slipped on this coat I think I oo’d and aah’d. I just love it and I know it’ll be a staple in my closet for a long, long time. The fit is dreamy and the material just gorgeous. The perfect weight and just feels so good on. It comes in 4 color ways, too!

I had the pleasure of working with the brand last year and am really grateful to be doing so again this forthcoming holiday season – I’m excited to unveil what we’re working on early next month!

A few other Eileen Fisher pieces I am loving right now:

. . .

Eileen Fisher Shawl Coat (S; c/o) // White + Warren Cashmere Sweater // Madewell Jeans (27; last seen here) // Marc Fisher Booties // Celine Bag (last seen here; pre-loved similar here) // Silk Mask (15% off with code MEGHAN15) // J.Crew Hat

p.s. cozy sherpa pieces and even more casual outfit ideas with jeans.

Aw thank you so much! Agree that it is $$$ but for a coat you’ll wear for so long (it’s timeless!) and that’s so well made – definitely worth a splurge for Christmas I think 🙂 And YES! I’m always wearing one in between shoots so I want to capture more of it!

Thank you for answering my Instagram question today by directing me to this post. I love how you styled your straight leg jeans with booties. Very cute!
