Last year when I began sharing my workout progress more on Instagram I got lots of questions about the best leggings, my favorite supportive sports bras and my other favorite workout essentials. I’ve updated this post to be a comprehensive look at all my favorite workout clothes from tops to bottom to sports bras and shoes.
My Current Favorite Workout Clothes
I had plenty of workout clothes that are “just ok” or that haven’t stood the test of time. I decided to donate and sell those when I moved last year and instead whittle down my collection to all the things I loved wearing and reached for again and again. You can trust that all those included below are damn good and have been tried and tested by me personally.
I prefer high neck workout tanks and this one fits my criteria for sweaty workouts. I wear size Medium.
I love this tank so much! It is the softest fabric ever and it is so flattering on. You can see it on in this post. I have a size Medium.
A favorite high neck tank made from soft fabric in a flattering fit. I own the white and gray and wear size M.
I hate long sleeve workout shirts that are tight on the arms so I rarely can find long sleeve shirts for workouts but this one was a home run. I’ll definitely be buying more. It also is great layered under puffer jackets for walks and you could even wear it at home as a basic layering tee under cardigans. I wear a size M.
I love cropped sleeveless tanks paired with leggings and this one has a cute style with the cutout in the back. I sized up to a size 8.
A great tank that has a bit of fashion to it. I love it for its high neck in particular. I wear size 8.
My go-to for pre and post workouts. I love the fit and feel of this affordable sweatshirt that’s super stylish. I have a M.
If you have & love the Vuori joggers than you’ll love this hoodie made out of the same super-soft fabric. It’s so soft and cozy yet perfectly sporty and a great weight. I size up to a Large.
HANDS. DOWN. THE. BEST. SPORTS. BRA. As someone with a large chest sports bras are always, always a challenge. Half the ones I try that are marketed as “high support” can’t take me jumping in place and I have to return. It’s truly frustrating. Then I found this bra. I couldn’t believe the price when I saw it but I’ll tell you what – it’s worth every penny because I don’t worry about anything when I wear this sports bra. I really laughed when I saw some negative reviews of it being hard to put on – because in my mind it’s what makes this bra truly work and truly be supportive. You have to hoist your boobs up into it and then lock them in in the back so to speak. But then you’re good to go!
Run in it, jump in it – put it to the test. I have two of this bra now and will probably buy a third before the year is over. It’s just worth it to me to have a sports bra I can really rely on for my high intensity workouts. I wear size 32DDD/F.
This is a good, supportive sports bra. Not the most beautiful or stylish but it holds your boobs in place during workouts. I sadly don’t know what size it is that I own because it’s not listed on the reversible bra. Sorry!
I have the Medium D-DD and am wearing it in the above photo. Note it comes with cup inserts but I removed them. I never thought this top would work for me (my friend Carly finally insisted I try it) but it turns out it is great for yoga and core workouts that I’ve been doing. Also seen on me here.
This is a great basic, do-it-all bra. It’s perfectly supportive for high intensity workouts but also could be worn for anything less intense. I love the soft fabric and that it comes in sizes XXS through 3X. I wear a size M.
This is a good bra for yoga and any less-intense workouts you may be doing. I wear a size 8.
I absolutely love this bra. It’s part crop top; part performance sports bra. I also think it’s super flattering on thanks to the high neck. If you’re a fan of the Athleta Conscious Crop, I think you’ll love this, too. It is perfect for pilates and yoga workouts. It has removable cups as well. I wear a size 8.
With how much I was wearing the similar Energy Long Line bra, I decided to buy this new style, too. It’s similar in fit and purpose so it’s another option I reach for often doing my pilates and yoga workouts at home.
I own at least five of these bras. They are inexpensive and reliable and really, really hold up. Most of those that I own I’ve had for more than five years. Good enough for workouts involving jumping and really comfortable. I wear size Medium. Also available on Amazon if you prefer to shop there.
It’s part tank, part sports bra. This is a great affordable top that’s flattering on and makes for an easy set when paired with black leggings. I wear size M. Shop more of my Amazon Favorites.
My second favorite pair of leggings and a best discovery of 2020 for me. These are a great lounge legging but equally great for HIIT workouts or yoga or pilates. I love them. They keep everything really tucked in. I wear the Athleta Elation legging in a size Small. These tights are also extremely size inclusive running XXS-3X. I’ve already bought a second pair! (I did try the high waist version and didn’t like them as much as the original, btw!)
I plan to buy a second pair once restocked as I know they are going to be in heavy rotation during this summer. Perfect for yoga but I also wear on particularly hot days to do my BBG. I wear size 8.
A flattering yet functional workout legging I wear often during BBG. they do show sweat so I’d steer clear of the colors and stick to black. I wear a Size 6.
These are a very sporty fabric but they majorly keep everything compressed in a way that leaves me feeling more fit than I am – ha! They also have a non-super high rise version if that’s more your speed. I wear a size 6.
These are my thinest pair of leggings but I love them for just that. The fabric feels super luxe and the fabric excels for sweaty workouts. These look great on and are my go-to for workouts. I now have two pair. I wear a size M.
I love these joggers that are equal parts sporty and lounge-y. Great for walks, great for wearing around the house and now have a cult following in my group of girlfriends. I wear a size Small. You will love these joggers – trust. See my full review here.
Designed for training, these leggings kind of do-it-all. You can wear them for pilates or yoga or also for walks or sweaty workouts that are more high intensity like BBG. I wear a size 6.
I own seven pairs of these now (four black, one burgundy, one navy) because I wear them that much. They are just.so.flattering.and.comfortable! Truly, I don’t think there’s a legging I love more. So soft, so wearable – no pulling or bunching or falling down. I wear these for yoga (I love that they hold up to my hot yoga classes!), I wear these for BBG, I wear these for walks outside, I wear these just around the house…I wear these a lot. And I wear a size 6.
I rejoiced when Lululemon released a jogger style of the beloved Align legging. They are so sporty and yet chic. I have worn these so much since they arrived at the start of shelter in place. I wear size 6. If you’re in between sizes I recommend sizing up.
These are thin and functional and great for workouts. They are more of a sheen fabric than my beloved Lululemon ones so definitely less lounge-y and more for fitness. I am wearing them in the above photo. I have both a Medium and a Small and prefer the fit of the Small. The brand also just came out with a bike short version in the same material and I got them to workout in this summer.
If you’re looking for an athleisure legging, look no further than the Vuroi Daily Legging. These feature a high waist, drawstring tie, an upgraded no-slip fit, 7/8 length and cuffed ankles making them equal parts sporty and stylish. These leggings are ultra compressive and supportive so I recommend sizing up. They’re great for yoga, running, hiking, traveling or running errands. I wear a size Large. The Vuori Daily Legging retails for $84 and is available in sizes XS-XL.
These are just so fun to wear. I love the chic shine of them that makes them feel a bit more fashion as far as leggings go. And I always get compliments on these when I wear them. I have size Small.
I bought these for my walks in Australia last November and really loved them. They definitely sculpt and smooth and look really good on. They come in loads of colors and I may get a bright, fun color next. I have a size Small. They are on the thicker side so they’re best in Fall & Winter.
These are the best affordable leggings from Amazon. They’re soft and have good compression. I size down to a size Small. I don’t find this style particularly cropped as the name states but I am also only 5’5″ so something to keep in mind. I like them paired with this yoga tank with built-in bra. Oh how I love these sneakers! So comfortable and yet stylish. I am so picky when it comes to my sneakers and when I booked my trip to Australia last year I decided to splurge on these after reading a lot of hype. I have worn them for practically every walk I’ve gone on in quarantine and they are what I also choose to wear for any hikes or other outdoor activities pre-quarantine. And I love that you don’t have to wear socks with them! I sized down half a size to 6.5.
