As someone who has lived with anxiety for the better part of the last 15 years, I was eager to try CBD when it became more readily available. I dipped my toe in by trying a CBD gummy and a CBD dropper here and there but when I delved into the category I learned how much need there is to educate yourself before you find something that works. In short? Not all CBD products are created equal.
How I Incorporate CBD into My Life
Last summer when Equilibria first reached out, I was curious to try the product but let it sit on my desk until the Winter when the holiday season had my nerves fried. By then I had seen several of my blogging friends sharing their good experiences with the brand (Grace, Anna; among others), so I finally got around to scheduling my consultation with one of Equilibria’s dosage specialists this past December and for two months since I have been reaping the benefits of CBD in my day to day.
As background, Equilibria offers a suite of premium CBD products alongside personalized dosage support so that each customer can get a custom routine best suited to their needs. The brand aims to help women who are dealing with inflammation, pain relief, everyday anxiety; among other pesky issues that can disrupt one’s day to day. If you’re not familiar, CBD is a natural compound (“phytocannabinoid”) found within industrial hemp flowers. Published clinical trials have shown that CBD benefits mental and physical well-being when taken properly and consistently. As per FDA guidelines, CBD is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or ailment.
The consultation was so eye-opening and informative.
I think helped assuage certain hesitations I had related to trying CBD. My past experiences with CBD included Lord Jones’ dropper which I didn’t see much difference from (turns out the CBD % is so low this isn’t surprising) and the gummies which I think worked ok but didn’t seem to be worth their price. I had also used a CBD gel product on back pain in the past that I thought worked quite well as an alternative to stickier Ibuleve that I had used for muscle pain.
Anyhow, back to my consultation. Maia asked me a series of questions about my overall health and any pain points. I shared my history of thyroid disease and anxiety. And, in turn, Bonnie shared what makes Equilibria’s CBD different and more premium than others on the market. Equlibria’s CBD is grown on a 1,100 acre organic farm so their formulas are consistent every time. The plant is grown in the sun and watered using water from their own well. They hand-harvest only the flower of the plant vs. the cheap way of taking out the whole plant for a higher quality end product. The brand’s current product line features many more cannabinoids and terpenes versus the average, mainstream over-the-counter CBD product.
As with all things in life, you get what you pay for.
A dosage consultation is also important as, should you be on other regular medications, you’ll need to be advised on whether CBD can interact with or increase the effectiveness of those medications. CBD may not be right for you. Or your dosage may need to be adjusted given the prescriptions you take regularly.
My favorite product from the Equilibria line is their Daily Drops.
I use them for what is called “episodic doses” meaning when an anxiety attack hits or on particularly stressful days. Maia shared that I should start with ½ a dropper under my tongue for 60 seconds whenever I am feeling overwhelmed or in advance of what I suspect to be an intense day (for example a long travel day) would be best for my type of anxiety. This has proven to be super helpful for my anxiety and where I have found CBD most helpful. They take about 10-30 minutes to kick in and will stay in my system usually between 4 and 6 hours.
I have a lot of friends who use CBD drops before bed to help them sleep. But I’ve personally found I get wild dreams when I do so. Therefore I stick to using my Daily Drops before 5PM. I have two bottles of the Daily Drops that I keep around. Usually one in my bag for the day and one on my desk.
The brand also just introduced new limited edition flavored Daily Drops that I am loving – particularly because they are perfectly sized for travel. (Note: CBD regulations vary per country so do not recommend traveling with CBD overseas.)
The other product that’s come to be one I rely on is Equilibria’s Relief Cream.
This stuff is GOOD. If you experience any sort of muscle pain, I can’t recommend this stuff enough. I’ve used this transdermal cream on my low back where I regularly get pain, on my temples when my headaches are bad. And on my jawline where I sometimes experience pain and on sore muscles after hard workouts.
The brand also has popular Daily Softgels that they recommend for anxiety sufferers as they work like a daily drip for your system for further balance overall. Given I already take a daily medication for my thyroid disease I opted to not try these at the onset of my CBD journey. But I have them and may do so when I know I am entering particularly stressful times of year.
At times my anxiety can be all consuming. If you’ve never experienced anxiety, it is hard to put into words. But for me, it is a chest-tightening, heart-racing, mind-spinning feeling where I have trouble figuring out what to do next. I am so glad I have found something that allows me to feel like I have a proactive way of minimizing this feeling when it comes on. It truly is a life-changing way to feel as someone who is not on anxiety medication. If you suffer from certain chronic illnesses where CBD may be beneficial in how you feel, I hope you’ll take the time to set up a dosage consultation to hear how it can best be worked into your own personal routine.
