Planning a trip to Paris in the spring or summer and unsure what to wear? This complete men’s Paris packing list will help you decide exactly what to pack for Paris in April, May, June, July and August.
As the founder of En Route to Rêverie I have helped hundreds of clients plan trips to Paris and one of the most common questions I receive is: What should men wear in Paris?
Parisian men tend to dress more polished than American men. Athleisure, oversized graphic tees and heavily branded sportswear are far less common. Instead, you’ll see tailored denim, crisp tees, lightweight blazers and minimalist sneakers.
This guide covers:
- What men should pack for Paris in spring
- The brands to consider shopping at for your trip
- What to wear in Paris in summer
- Shoes for walking in Paris
- How to dress for dinners and evenings out
- A versatile capsule wardrobe for a week in Paris
If you’re headed to the City of Light as or with a male, here’s your ultimate Paris packing guide with essentials from brands I love for men that embody understated cool, like Rails, Octobre, Shopbop Men, Madewell, Vince, APC, Barbour, J.Crew, Alex Mill, Rag & Bone and Marine Layer.
Paris Weather in Spring and Summer
Spring in Paris (March–May):
Temperatures typically range from 45–68°F. Expect a mix of sunshine and light rain. Layering is essential.
Summer in Paris (June–August):
Temperatures average 65–85°F. Heat waves are possible in July and August. Breathable fabrics are key.
Regardless of the month, be sure you pack a good travel umbrella.
What to Pack for Paris in Spring and Summer: A Men’s Packing List
In general men are a bit leveled up in Paris than in the States in my opinion. The style is less casual so I recommend leaving at home the athleisure and hoodies and branded sports gear.
Here’s what I would recommend packing for a trip to Paris in the Spring or Summer for men.
1. The Perfect White T-Shirt for Paris
Nothing says French effortless style like a crisp white tee. Marine Layer’s Signature Crew Tee offers that soft, broken-in feel with just the right amount of drape.
Pair it with jeans or layer it under a blazer for instant Parisian savoir faire.
2. A Breton Stripe Shirt for a Classic French Look
You’ll fit right in with the locals in a striped shirt. Octobre’s ‘Marinière’ shirts provide a classic French look with a modern twist. Lightweight and versatile, these are perfect for a casual museum visit or an outdoor lunch at a brasserie.
3. Lightweight Chinos for Walking Around Paris
Rails pants usually strike the ideal balance of comfort and style. Opt for neutral tones like khaki, navy or stone, which can be dressed up or down depending on the day’s itinerary.
I like that these pants let men go from a morning market stroll to an evening wine bar effortlessly.
Or consider a pair by Marine Layer.
4. Tailored Denim for Everyday Wear
A staple in any Parisian wardrobe, well-fitted jeans are essential. I like the selection of brands available at Shopbop Men’s.
Roll up the hems slightly for a relaxed, summer-ready vibe.
5. A Lightweight Blazer for Paris Evenings
For those moments when you want to channel a bit of Parisian sophistication, J.Crew’s Ludlow Unstructured Blazer is your go-to. Lightweight and unlined, it’s breathable enough for warm days but still smart enough for a dinner date at a Michelin-starred spot.
6. Short-Sleeve Button-Ups
Shopbop Men has my favorite collection of short-sleeve shirts which offer endless options for those warmer afternoons. Look for prints that are subtle and playful — think understated florals or geometric patterns — to add a touch of personality without going overboard for a bit of Parisian male flare.
7. Comfortable Sneakers for Walking in Paris
A pair of minimalist sneakers is practically a Parisian uniform. Opt for something sleek and comfortable like Common Projects’ Original Achilles or Adidas Sambas or Converse or lace up Vans.
They’ll pair just as well with chinos as they will with jeans for lots of walking in Paris.
(And, please, leave the Hokas at home!!)
8. Loafers or Leather Slip-Ons for Dinners Out in Paris
For evenings out, leave the boat shoes at home and pack a pair of suede loafers. They’re polished enough for a visit to a chic cocktail bar but won’t feel out of place for a mid-afternoon picnic in the park either. Or consider a classic pair of penny loafers.
Just be sure to spray your suede with a suede protectant spray before hand as rain is to be expected in Spring in Paris.
9. Light Jackets for Paris Spring Weather
Paris spring weather can be unpredictable. A lightweight jacket like Octobre’s options are practical yet stylish layering pieces. Its tailored fit ensures you look sharp no matter what the forecast brings.
This brand also makes great options. And Rails has so many stylish ones, too.
10. Accessories for Men in Paris
- Sunglasses: Keep it classic with tortoiseshell frames or a great pair of Ray Bans.
- Scarf: Even in summer, Parisians love a lightweight scarf. Try one from Octobre for a simple way to elevate any outfit.
- Day Bag: A crossbody satchel or backpack is both functional and chic. Marine Layer’s canvas bags are ideal for holding your camera, guidebook and a pastry or two, of course.
- Belts: These can provide some variety within your looks. I think J.Crew always has a good selection.
11. Button Downs
Bring a variety of button downs for dressing up or dressing down. The brand RAILS makes some great ones.
12. Navy Sport Coat
A navy blazer is a French guy staple. So be sure to pack a sport coat or suit for dressier dinners out.
13. Ball Cap
For casual outings exploring Paris, top your look with a ball cap.
What Not to Wear in Paris (For Men)
- Athletic basketball shorts
