I just returned from a few beautiful days in Sayulita, Mexico and it reminded me how good a warm weather trip mid-winter is. The sunshine, margaritas and tacos were good for the soul. Of course, depending on where you’re going in Mexico, whether it is Cabo San Lucas or Cancun or Riviera Maya, you’ll want to adjust your packing list accordingly.
I packed for early February temperatures of in the mid 70s. We were lucky with full sun every day and I loved how casual the vibes were.
I’m not one to wear loads of color usually, but for destinations like Mexico, I like to incorporate a bit less black and have more fun with some colors and patterns.
As someone who tends to get hot easily, I avoid silks and satins as a rule and look for more breathable fabrics.
Mexico in Winter Packing List
1. Printed Midi Dress
I love that this dress is equal parts ladylike and yet casual. I actually own it in four solid colors because I love the fit and versatility of it so much. Hear me when I say, the Staud Wells Dress is worth every penny.
I size up to an 8 in this style.
I think this Fanm Mon midi dress would be perfect for Mexico, too! The brand makes such fun and colorful styles.
2. Midi Slip Dress
This is one of my all time favorite dresses. It has a flattering fit, can be dressed up or dressed down and comes in a variety of colors. You can see it on me in my Jenni Kayne Apparel Review. Size up if you’re in between sizes.
3. Smocked Maxi Dress
A dress like this does double duty. You can wear it with a slip for a night out or day time excursion or wear it as a coverup as I did one day to the beach.
4. Sunglasses
A warm weather must, pack a pair or two of your favorite sunglasses. I swear by my favorite styles by Celine. I find their sunglasses rather indestructible making them great for travel in particular.
5. Frank & Eileen Linen Set
I love packing a linen set for warm weather beach vacations because you can wear the pants with a swimsuit, wear the set as a cover up or pair the linen button down with a pair of denim shorts.
6. Diamond Necklace
This is one of my favorite diamond necklaces. It’s dainty and simple and goes with everything. You don’t have to worry about taking it off to swim or shower either.
7. Top Tote Hat Holder
I never travel without a hat without adding it to this handy magnet that clips onto your carry on and ensures you don’t end up losing your hat while en route.
8. Denim Shorts
A beach vacation must. Throw them on over your swimsuit or with a linen button down for a day time outing.
This brand makes all my favorite pairs that I own. I find them usually to run true to size but I’d recommend sizing up for a slouchier, looser off-duty, at-the-beach kind of look.
9. Ankle Wrap Sandals
I avoid heels whenever I’m in a more casual beach destination but instead opt for these sandals that elongate your legs and feel a bit dressier than a slip on. They are also SO comfortable. A forever favorite pair.
10. Sezane Basket Bag
The perfect beach bag that I also used as a carry on. It fits a fair bit and I love the double straps that make it more practical for a variety of uses.
It also comes in smaller sizes if you’d prefer!
11. Supergoop Powder SPF
I swear by this for beachside or poolside touchups. It goes on so easily and protects without messing up any makeup if you happen to have some on.
12. Shirred One Piece Swimsuit
I love this flattering, simple swimsuit. I own it in both white and black.
13. One Shoulder Swimsuit
The Hunza G swimsuits are pricey but they really have great compression technology so I love how they fit (despite being all one size fits all! It’s some sort of fabric wizardry!?)
14. Summersalt One Shoulder Swimsuit
This is another favorite swimsuit I own in two different colors. Supportive, too which I’m always grateful for.
15. Denim Jacket
For cooler evenings, be sure to pack some sort of layer. A denim jacket is perfectly casual and a good weight and I like how it layers with dresses.

16. Bezel Necklace
I’m all about minimal jewelry no matter where I am but I do love a bit of sparkle for evenings so I love this graduated bezel necklace made from lab grown diamonds.
17. Woven Sandal
I wear the M in this set and the quality is great. I can throw it in the wash after and it comes out of the dryer looking great. (Not always the case with cheaper linen fabrics!)
18. Wicker Bag
How darling is this little bag? Perfect for nights out in Mexico. I love that it has a drawstring closure to keep your belongings tucked away.
19. Packable Hat
You won’t see me at a beach or at a pool without a wide brimmed hat. But I always opt for one that is packable so it doesn’t show much wear and tear when I travel with it.
Shopbop has a lot of packable hat options at various budgets.
20. Bezel Bracelet
And a dainty bracelet is perfect for a little wrist adornment.

Beautiful clothes!
I just returned from a trip to Central America and I always struggle with what to wear on travel days in the winter. I live 2 hrs from the airport and there was snow on the ground with temps in the high 20s. Then I get to my destination and it’s 90 degrees but according to my phone it feels like 102!
