So despite waxing on about denim in yesterday’s post, this week’s outfits are all about being a bit more dressy. I’ve been busy with work meetings and events for the blog that have called for mixing things up a bit more and I’m still determined to wear things in my closet that haven’t gotten a lot of TLC lately.
Fun fact time…it wasn’t till hours after taking these photos that I discovered my sweater was on BACKWARDS. Seems fitting given it was #Monday. Le sigh…
Anyhow, with loads of trips coming up this Spring (Dallas! Austin! DC! Nashville!) I am trying to shop less and actually wear the items in my closet I’ve spent money on. I bought these Stuart Weitzman booties on one of my first trips to New York back in 2010 and they remain so comfortable but often I reach for newer shoes first. I’m practicing what I preach about ensuring your investment pieces work hard for your wardrobe and don’t sit collecting dust.
I used to be so against wearing brown + black together and navy and black but now I embrace it. While I can appreciate a head to toe black look, it’s nice to mix things up every once in a while. While I’ve always thought of pencil skirts as more matronly (they can be tough to style, be too fitted or unflattering) I was drawn to this particular one because of its material (faux leather) and the unsurprising front hem with the asymmetrical cut-out (p.s. it is on sale!)
The truth is, pencil skirts have come a long way. Instead of being in more formal suiting attire, they now come in fun prints, more modern lengths and updated fabrics that make them more universally flattering. Below are some of the best I’ve found that are currently available.
And this sweater is like the gift that keeps on giving. While it was $$$, I have worn it so many different ways (see with floral pants here, as a layering piece here and with a skirt + over the knee boots here.)
