I’m excited to be sharing my first post following my trip to Provence today! The trip was such fun and it warmed my heart to be back in a region I’ve been lucky enough to visit briefly many years ago. I absolutely loved being in the countryside for five days and visiting so many charming villages. I have so many photos and details to share and I hope you’ll enjoy each post as I share them in the coming weeks!
Where we stayed in Provence and the Poppy Fields
When we started planning this trip, I knew we’d want to have a good home base in Central Provence so we decided on an Airbnb near the popular town of Gordes. The listing was a room at a bed & breakfast right off the main road in Apt, France and it couldn’t have been more perfect.
The property offers several rooms and is the home of Marie Claire and Jean Claude who were the sweetest and most welcoming hosts. Every morning we were greeted by them alongside a delicious breakfast (featuring Marie Claire’s delicious homemade jams) and given tips about the area and suggestions on what to do. We spent a wonderful afternoon sitting by their gorgeous pool and absolutely loved how close the location was to many of the villages we ended up checking out on our visit.
I can’t recommend this spot enough if you’re planning a trip to Provence!
While we had crossed our fingers we might get lucky with the lavender blooms happening early in the region, we unfortunately didn’t luck out in that category but we did get to enjoy beautiful fields of Les Coquelicots – or in English, poppies.
I had read online that many poppy fields are in abundance around Bonnieux but we ended up finding the most beautiful one near the town of Ménerbes (more on that town in a future post!) where we shot these photos. The beautiful red blooms against the blue skies and green trees was just such a lovely scene to take in.
Nearby our Airbnb were some lovely villages including Roussillon which boasted so many colorful buildings and cute shops as well as Goult where we had a delicious dinner at La Bartavelle. (Recommend making a reservation in advance.)
When we set out for the poppy fields near Bonnieux, we drove through town and had to stop and take in the gorgeous views it boasted.
Just outside of Bonnieux and on the way to the neighboring town of Lacoste we found some lavender just starting to bloom. I would love to return one day in mid-July to see them in all their glory – particularly in the famed towns of Valensole and Sault.

You would have loved Provence!!
Thank you for this information! What’s the name of the B&B where you stayed? The link no longer works.
Aw I am so sad to see it is no longer on Airbnb! Went into my account to investigate and indeed it is no longer active on Airbnb but it is here: https://www.bastidepreville.fr/en/bed-and-breakfast-apt/ Not sure if they are still accepting bookings but I hope that helps. It was SUCH a gem of a find.
Thanks very much!
