Every year I love looking back at my favorite beauty purchases of the year and whittling down the best of the best for this post. One of my favorite perks of wit & whimsy is the amount of beauty products I can test through the year. I try a lot and many never make it to the blog or my Instagram because they’re just OK. You know if I am sharing something it is GOOD. It is why I talk about the same products over and over again, too.
Last year I didn’t do as good of a job prioritizing a cleaner beauty routine and I also was battling a lot of skin issues so I reigned in on trying more skincare for much of last year. In 2022 I also tried a lot of trending products to see if they were worth the hype to report back to you guys.
In 2022 I largely shared my favorite beauty discoveries with my newsletter community in a (mostly) monthly series. On the blog, I continued to share more in-depth reviews of brands and products like my NuFace Review as well as more seasonal round ups like my favorite products for summer glow and finally rounding up my favorite fragrances.
But I also took on the big project of updating my Holy Grail Products which already now is due for a minor refresh given last year’s discoveries.
The Best Beauty Products I Tried in 2022
1. NuFACE Facial Toning Device
My love for this device grew throughout the year after I bought it on sale at the onset of 2022. If committed to use, it really does lift and contour the face.
2. Osea Body Scrub
Obsessed with this stuff. One of the best body scrubs – if not the best – I’ve ever tried.
3. Tower28 Sunny Days SPF
The Tower28 Sunny Days SPF is so good. One of my favorite product discoveries this year for sure. It evens out skin tone but can also layer with bb cream or foundation. I wear shade Fairfax.
4. Phlur Missing Person
The Phlur Missing Person perfume has been a favorite of 2022. It’s mysterious and sexy yet light and floral all at the same time. I kept the mini in my makeup bag for travel and went through it in record time.
5. Lazy Sunday Mornings Fragrance
My #1 bestselling Sephora product this year! I bought it in Paris last March and I absolutely love how light and fresh it is. 2022 was the year I got back into fragrance and I’m so happy I did.
6. Kitsch No Snag Elastics
I love this variety bag of mini, no snag, clear elastics for doing my up dos.
7. dpHue Hair Gloss
To help keep my hair bright and not very brassy, I use this gloss to color correct between salon appointments. I used it right before I went to Paris instead of getting my highlights touched up and you can see in the photos in this post how much cooler my color is following having used it. This stuff gets rid of the brass and more golden tones that my hair takes on about a month to six weeks after getting my hair done.
It comes in a variety of shades for various hair colors.
8. Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize Cream Shadows
The Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerize cream shadow is so gorgeous. Every time I wear the shade Champagne I get compliments on my eye makeup. I loved it so much I bought the shade Oyster Pearl to have as well. I used to find cream eyeshadow a bit intimidating but not any more with this stuff.
9. Armani Beauty Luminous Silk Concealer
When it comes to favorite foundations, the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation always takes the gold. It has a cult following for good reason and so I shouldn’t be surprised when I fell in love with the brand’s concealer at the start of this year.
10. Londontown Nail Concealer
I’m very into the bare nail look at the moment and spent last year largely wanting to give my nails a rest from gel. I bought this nail concealer in two shades and fell in love. It makes your nails look so healthy and put together without much effort.
11. Tigi Hair Wax Stick
TikTok sold me on this to help with flyaways in my signature low bun.
12. Gucci Glow & Care Shine Lipstick
One of my go-to no lipstick lipstick looks is this one in shade Sally Soft Honey – an ideal pinky nude.
11. Makeup by Mario MositureGlow Lip Plumping Serums
The Makeup by Mario MositureGlow Lip Plumping Serums are so good I bought one and then two more. I also really like Makeup by Mario’s blush and lip liners. Beautiful colors and payoff. His line was one of the best I explored last year.
12. NARS Air Matte Cream Blush
This NARS blush is the prettiest sheer wash of color. I loved it so much I bought it for my sister in law because I think it is impactful yet so easy to throw on. Perfect for five minute faces.
13. Tatcha Lip Mask
I never understood the hype around the Laneige lip masks – they just weren’t for me. But I’ve finally found a winner for lip masks to wear at bedtime and as I do my makeup to prep my lips for lipstick and this is it!
14. Laroche Posay Cica Balm
A great barrier repair cream if skin feels over-sensitized. This product went viral on TikTok last year for good reason. I consider it one of the Best French Beauty Products.
1. Saie Setting Powder + Brush
I’ve been using Saie’s setting powder/brush duo every day since it arrived. Beautiful, glowy and blurring power for oily T-zone girls like myself. You can get them as a set on Saie’s website. Read my whole Saie Beauty Review.
2. Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump
Oh man, the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump is so good. You actually feel your lips plumping and these are in fact just so juicy. I love how they make lips look and have already collected two colors. TIkTok did not disappoint me with this one.
3. Chanel Liquid Eyeliner
All year I was practicing my liquid eyeliner and this one is the easiest to achieve a somewhat good result. It has the smallest brush so you can get precise even when you’re not a pro.
4. Chanel Mascara Primer
I’m always amazed at what a difference a mascara primer makes and this is the best one I’ve tried. I tested out three other brands last year that all fell short. This Chanel one took the cake!
(I didn’t want to love Chanel makeup but man…it’s really good).
5. Dyson Airwrap
I got the new Dyson in 2022 on sale and while I am still practicing – I have to say I understand the hype now. The curls it gives me are so bouncy!! It truly makes me look like I’ve had my hair professionally done when I do it right and I love how effortless it makes my hair look.
6. Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat High Cover Concealer
I rediscovered the Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat High Cover Radiant Under-Eye Concealer in my makeup stash recently and my god- why wasn’t I using this every day? It does wonders to make eyes look less tired, more awake and really does help blur dark circles and fine lines so beautifully. A sort of miracle worker if you ask me. I use Shade 1.
If you love the Erborian BB Cream – you will love this!
7. Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush
I loooove the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush. It blends out so beautifully and you only need the tiniest dot as they are really highly pigmented. I have the shades Hope and Bliss. I use the Merit Beauty brush I’m obsessed with to blend it out.
8. Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick in Always Red
Another red lip I love is the Sephora Collection because the formula is so dreamy. It is creamy yet weightless and super transfer-proof which I can’t say for a lot of lipsticks I’ve tried. It lasts all day and at just $15 the price can’t be beat.
9. Sephora Collection Makeup Tape
All year long I have been working on my cat eye. I really do like the definition it gives to an eye shape but man is it hard to master! To help move along my progress I decided to buy this makeup tape that helps me be more precise. Highly recommend this little roll of tape if you, too have been trying to master the technique of a precision liner look.
10. Tula Sunscreen
I was really impressed by this sunscreen. It goes on so well with no whitecast or greasy residue and makeup goes on easily after it! I also found I could reapply it without ruining my makeup which was a game changer. The bottle is small so it is also great for travel or tucking in your purse.
And just a couple of others…
Grande Cosmetics Heated Lash Curler
The year I finally started curling my lashes again thanks to this handy little gadget that makes it a snap! Combined with the Chanel Mascara Primer and my all time favorite mascara…a match made in lash heaven.
Westman Atelier Vital Skin Drops
You guys know by now what a fan I am of the Westman Atelier line so not a huge surprise that as I tested the Vital Skin Drops I fell in love. It provides the slightest bit of glowy coverage and can be layered easily with a more matte foundation if you want even more coverage. But alone it still makes your skin look like it’s having a great day. I like that the formula is focused on hydration because as I get older and my skin shows more signs of age, it is drier and seeks hydrating formulas more and more.
Danessa Myricks Beauty Yummy Skin Blurring Balm Powder
This year my pores showed up more on my face and I was seeking a way to blur them before I added base makeup that tended to sink into them if not first reminded via a primer. This balm is very cool. It blurs pores with a balm-like texture that also works to balance your skin’s oils throughout the day. It’ll give you a little bit of coverage, too if you want to just wear it alone but I like it layered under my favorite BB Cream or foundation. I got Shade 1.
