Parisian Facade

Happy Friday from Paris! I arrived earlier this week for a fun few days of meetings and shopping and scouting new recs for our En Route to Rêverie clients. I had the absolute best week in the UK prior and then, true to form, felt all the feels arriving to Paris full of gratitude.

It’s been one of those *pinch me* good kinda weeks. I have had such a smile on my face all week. I’ve seen friends (I’ve made new ones!), witnessed epic sunsets, the weather has been sunny and oh-so-spring like so Paris has felt so alive, I’ve had a few incredible meals, I went to an antiques fair and scored some amazing finds I can’t wait to share with you guys and I’ve also blissfully had the time and space to feel inspired and reflective.

I still have lots from this trip to share but here are some snaps from London and the English Countryside in the meantime.

I hope you enjoy this week’s edit and have a wonderful weekend!

WHAT I DID THIS WEEK:

  • Explored Paris, caught up with my En Route to Rêverie team member and some friends and got in some good meetings. I also had the honor of going to Sezane Fashion Week presentation to get a sneak peek of more Spring to come and oh my gosh it is so good! I can’t wait for the additional March drops and April’s collections!
  • I really enjoyed what Hillary Kerr wrote in her Substack this week – so much of what we share as creators is through our lens. What we like, what we find “flattering” and what we spend – is up to us. It’s our content! But we always do it with the hopes that our community will like the recs, too. But I think it is important to remember that not everyone’s taste or budget is the same. What one finds overly priced, another finds an investment. What one finds tacky, another finds striking. I really appreciated how she responded to a not nice comment and reminded her readers that we’re all different and that’s A-ok. (Btw I’ve loved her writing for years so I recommend her Substack!)
  • Shared how travel advisors scout new destinations and properties.
  • Had the best time reuniting with a dear friend for a girls trip in The Cotswolds.

READ + LOOK + LOVE:

  • How to better manage flight anxiety.
  • Rachel Bilson’s favorite things. (I’ve always loved her!)
  • A NYC restaurant review I agree with after a recent visit.
  • Self love tips from confident women.
  • The best cabins on Airbnb.
  • White Lotus’ Star Natasha Rothwell’s London.
  • Paris cafes with history.
  • Quince’s duping culture. Those who follow me on IG know I have long called out this brand for its icky marketing tactics and blatant copying of small businesses. I was shaking my head yes the entire time I read this article. I will never buy from them nor work with them (they have offered me very well paying jobs in the past that I have declined). I understand the appeal of the look for less, of course…but the dupe culture that has proliferated the influencer space is hard for me to swallow. This article confirms Quince is buying smaller brands’ pieces and sending them to warehouses to duplicate after they use software that crawls the web to understand how other brands’ pieces are selling. There’s a fine line between pieces having the vibe of a brand (ex: I like to find stuff that looks like The Row or Khaite at a more attainable price point) without being a absolute knockoff.

  1. Ellie James says:

I actually really like Quince! I don’t have a lot of money to spend on clothing, like other people might, but I work hard and it feels good to look polished at work.

Totally understand where you’re coming from! It’s not the price point that bothers me – there’s a place for it! It’s how they are using technology to knock off small brands’ best sellers.
