First, back in Spring 2016 I bought my Chanel Ballet Flats. Then, the following year, I invested in the Chanel slingbacks. Ever since then, they have become my most-worn heel thanks to their comfort and versatility.
The Chanel two-tone slingback is iconic and instantly recognizable. The style was first designed back in 1957 by Coco Chanel and designed to be a universally flattering style – something that I think allows these shoes to stand the test of time. The idea behind the design of this shoe initially was to make the foot look smaller and the leg look longer. (Slingbacks themselves date back to the 1930s).
For the Fall 2015-2016 show, Karl Lagerfeld paid homage to Gabrielle Chanel’s original 1957 shoe introducing them into the new collection in a contemporary interpretation that has been popular ever since.
The Two Tone Beige/Black combo I own remains the most popular but every season Chanel also introduces the shoe in a variety of other color and fabric combinations. So if the beige/black duo isn’t for you, there are usually a handful of styles from which you can choose to find something that most suits your personal style. I really find the two tone style so versatile though and it truly compliments my wardrobe of neutrals so well. I think the shoe itself is so elegant and flattering on.
I have found the Chanel Slingback shoes to hold up really well and I have successfully logged tens of thousands of steps in them. I was sure to add a protective sole (as I do for all my favorite investment shoes) and I take them to my tailor from time to time to get them looking new again.
Thanks to the stacked heel there are super comfortable and I typically don’t have an issue with the slingback falling off.
As for sizing guidance, I usually size down half a size in Chanel shoes and I did so with the Chanel Slingbacks as well.
