Gift Ideas from Small Businesses

The Best Holiday Gifts from Small BusinessesThe first 2018 wit & whimsy gift guide is here! And it’s dedicated to something I’m really passionate about. Ever since becoming a small business owner myself, I’ve become extremely keen on supporting others who are waking up every morning, being their own bosses, working so hard and pursuing their dreams. In today’s age of shopping I think it’s even more important to support small businesses and so I wanted to dedicate an entire gift guide to gift ideas from small businesses. I had so much fun compiling this and I’d love to hear what you guys like the most in this guide or if you buy any gifts!

  1. Closed on Mondays Woven Basket: My friend Bekka is the artist behind Closed on Mondays and she makes incredible woven goods – everything from baskets to bags to plant holders. Her woven baskets with pops of color are my favorite and make beautiful gifts. I have one at my house and always get compliments on it!
  2. Kaari Foods Vegan Dressing Starter Pack: I was so glad when this founder reached out as she’s a fellow Santa Clara alumn and she’s running her foods business with her sister which I think is just the coolest. This dressing gift set would be great for the cook or hostess in your life.
  3. The Nue Co. Magnesium Ease: Have an athlete in your life and can’t think of a good gift? Look no further than this magnesium spray that helps to unwind tight or sore muscles. I have it and it works great.
  4. Orange Paper Shoppe: Does your mom or mother in law love to send cards? This stationery company has some of the cutest cards that would be great to bundle into a set for future snail mail efforts. A bundle of cards would also make a great stocking stuffer.
  5. Moroccan Cups Gift Set: How pretty are these little cups? Would be great for sipping tea, juice or even a little port! They are handmade in Morocco.
  6. BoxFox: I adore this company for gift-giving. You can select a pre-made box of little gifts or build your own. The inclusions range from edible items like candy and tea to other cozy items like candles and mugs.
  7. Mullein & Sparrow Rose Bath Salts: This brand is based in Brooklyn and makes gorgeous beauty products. The bath salts come in a gorgeous glass jar that make it perfect for gifting.
  8. Mike’s Hot Honey: Have a foodie you need to get something for? Look no further than this stuff which is amazing on everything from roasted vegetables to pizza.
  9. Lula’s Garden Succulent: Have a friend that loves plants? Get them the cutest succulent from Lula’s Garden. They have so many cute options from which to pick.
  10. Catbird Stud Earrings: Catbird is my favorite place to buy jewelry and these little “secret studs” make the perfect gift. I got them for my BFF last year and also an employee. They also come in gold and silver.
  11. Palermo Body Detox Body Scrub: A luxe body scrub isn’t something you’d necessarily buy for yourself so I think it makes a great gift. This one is full of good-for-your-body ingredients like sea clay, tea tree oil and grapefruit and is a female-owned small business.
  12. The Little Market Alpaca Penguin Stuffed Animal: The Little Market is an amazing site that empowers craftswomen from all over the world and gives them a platform to sell their goods. This penguin stuffed animal was made by an artisan in Peru and I just think it’s the cutest thing! It’s perfect for your friend’s little one or a nephew or niece!
  13. Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask: Summer Fridays was started by two social influencers and this mask has gotten a ton of great buzz since launching earlier this year. It would make a great gift for the frequent traveler or any beauty junkie.
  14. Grenville Society Apres Candle: The owner of Grenville Society was kind enough to reach out & send me this candle at the start of the Fall season and you guys, I never want it to end! It smells amazing. The way she describes the scent is perfect: Maraschino, Cinnamon Leaf, Dried Tobacco, and Mulled Wine wrapped in cable knits. It is the perfect seasonal candle and at $32 it is great to give to a friend, co-worker or Secret Santa.
  15. Uma Oils Pure Rest Wellness Oil: This oil is a favorite of mine at nighttime or when I travel (I have a little vial for travel) to help me wind down and sleep better. It smells absolutely amazing and it makes a beautiful gift because of its packaging.
  16. Cuffed by Nano Bracelet: A reader introduced me to this brand and I think it’s perfect for gifting for a friend, niece or daughter. I personally love the Pizza and Champagne cuff but they have loads of cute options for gifting.
  17. Katie Dean Jewelry Initial Ring: I know Katie personally and she is the sweetest in addition to making really great jewelry. I own a few pieces of hers and if you’re looking for a gift for a sister, sister in law, BFF or niece, I highly recommend checking out her collection.
  18. Esselle Ring Box: Know someone who recently got engaged? Get them this beautiful ring box to store their new bling. Sherry is another female founder I know personally and I’ve loved watching her amazing line continue to grow and grow the past few years.
  19. Sugarfina Bento Box: I love how the owners of Sugarfina have reinvented candy and their gift sets are so great to give as gifts. This bento box is so cute in particular.
  20. Inslee Desktop Calendar: Longtime readers may remember when I featured Inslee here and so I had to include something from her beautiful line of prints and stationery. This desktop calendar would be great for someone who works in an office and wants to bring a little pretty to their office.
  21. Felicity and Bliss Roman Numeral Necklace: I randomly found this necklace and ordered one for myself with the roman numerals for “2011” – the year I moved to New York. SO many of you guys told me you ordered it after I shared it on Instagram and the blog and think it would make such a great gift to mark an important date for someone in your life.
  22. Year and Day Vase: My friend knows the founder of this gorgeous pottery brand and it makes me want to totally revamp all my kitchenware.
  23. Kindred Home Candles: You guys have heard me tout these candles before here and they are some of my favorite for gifting throughout the year. Not only do they have the most wonderful fragrances from which to choose, these candles also have wooden wicks that make the most amazing crackling sound as they burn. They are divine and everyone I give these candles to becomes hooked on them! I love the Fraser Fir, Cashmere and Gilded Figleaf scents the most but they all are divine.
  24. Clementine Studio Pet Portrait Commissions: Carly is the artist behind Clementine Studio and happens to be the sister of my friend Jenna! She’s so talented and this holiday season she’s doing pet commissions which I think are the perfect gift for any dog mom or dad.

Hope you guys find something perfect from this first gift guide for those on your list! And a reminder that you can find all holiday content here and more gift ideas in these shops!

p.s. more of what you can expect on wit & whimsy this holiday season and why I’m excited for the weeks ahead.
