This is the time of year I love thinking about transitioning pieces from my summer wardrobe into Fall. I begin to put away my most summery pieces but keep things like long sleeve dresses and summery shoes around so that I can pair them with more Fall-forward items.
Affordable Transitional Pieces
I always love that in-between season when it approaches. You know the one – the one where you can wear a dress with no tights and your favorite Fall boots. Or you can top a leather jacket over an eyelet dress. Pair a plaid blazer with denim shorts. Top a denim jacket with some leather pants or a leather mini skirt. It’s the return of denim season and when I love putting a summery top with a favorite pair of jeans.
It’s truly one of my favorite time of years to get dressed and be a little creative with items I have hanging in my closet.
I rounded up a bunch of new arrivals that caught my eye and will be perfect as transitional pieces as we enter that fall transitional period into cooler weather. I’ve shared how I’d style many of them to hopefully give you some ideas. And everything I’ve curated is under $200!
I’m loving the return of the subtle wideleg jean this season and this pair from Madewell look perfect for year-round wear thanks to the light but not too-light wash.
I generally size down in Madewell denim.
I wear trousers year round these days and this pair looks great. I love how on the model they styled it with a short sleeve sweater tee. You could also do a silk tank with a more fall jacket, too. I like the look of this pair, too.
The J.Crew bags right now!! This one looks like The Row but is a fraction of the cost coming in at under $200. I love how chic it is and the chocolate brown color is just gorgeous.
My ball cap collection has grown significantly the last two years and I love styling them with favorite sweaters and denim shorts alongside blazers and jeans, too. The Anine Bing ones have a really good fit to them and I like how chic they are. They feel more elevated than your average baseball cap.
I love the time of year when crisp mornings return and you can pull out your Barbour jackets and field jackets. These are the types of coats that just make me so excited to plan Fall adventures.
This one from J.Crew is so chic and on sale.
Another J.Crew bag I am loving. Looks designer but is under $200. It comes in several colors if black isn’t your thing.
I love a short sleeve sweater tee as a transitional piece. Great paired with shorts in late summer and then wonderful as a layering piece under blazers or great with a pair of trousers. I bought this $50 one in a size Large in the beautiful charcoal color but they have several colors available.
You know I love my LaLigne sweaters and they just introduced an under $200 style of their infamous Mini Marina Sweater in solid colors with their bestselling chunky 100% cotton.
I love the camel color as a year-round piece but it also comes in a beautiful ivory and a black if those are more your color preferences.
One of my very favorite Sezane essential pieces. I have it in three different colorways and it is one of my go-to pieces I wear when I don’t want to think about getting dressed.
I love this more cool-girl take on a classic oxford thanks to the contrasting fabrics. I would pair this with jeans and a pair of ballet flats.
I am so glad Mary Janes are having a moment again this year! This flat pair has French girl vibes and I’d wear them with distressed straight leg jeans or a little mini skirt.
Ballet flats are worn by me year round but always get more air time come Fall.
Leather accessories like a good belt are perfect for transitioning some of your summer pieces into Fall.
I adore this lady jacket that’s part cardigan, part jacket. You can wear it buttoned up or unbuttoned. See it on me in this post. I wear a size Large and am already eyeing the new camel and black colors they released for Fall.
Navy-White stripes are the perfect summer transitional pattern in my opinion. This looks like a good layering piece to add under navy blazers or pair with trousers.
