Sezane Size Guide

In my many years of shopping the Sézane brand (first in France before they came to the United States), I have amassed many of their high quality pieces and I reach for them time and time again. The brand has expanded significantly in the U.S. in recent years and have brought their Parisian spirit to women and men now, too.

But the brand’s sizing can be a bit tricky and most of their inventory is online so finding the right size can be difficult. French sizing is usually different than American sizing.

Since I have been shopping the brand for over ten years, today I’m sharing more info on how to shop the brand more successfully by sharing a Sézane Size Guide. And don’t miss shopping even more of my favorite Sézane Essentials.

Sézane Size Guide

I find nearly all French brands to run smaller than American brands so I always size up. Especially if you have a bigger chest as many French brands don’t design for larger chests with their French sizing.

If you’re unsure on sizing, I recommend ordering two sizes to be sure as Sézane offers free return shipping. In general though, it is best to know that Sézane tends to run small and I recommend sizing up if you’re in between sizes. I also find their sizing guidance on product pages to not be entirely accurate according to my experience.

Below you’ll find my personal experience with Sézane sizing for a variety of their most popular pieces.

Sézane Sizing Chart

You’ll find a general size guide on each product page on Sezane’s website.

French sizes have U.S. equivalents. So French 32=US 0; French 34 = US 2; French size 36 = US 4; French 38 = US 6; French 40 = US 8; French 42 = US 10; French 44 = US 12; French 46 = US 14 and French 48 = US 16.

The brand currently only goes up to a size 16 or sizes XXS-XXXXL and this is not true for all pieces they produce.

The brand has expanded sizing in recent years on select items and I’m hopeful they’ll continue to do so.

Sézane Gaspard Sweater

My #1 Sézane essential is this versatile sweater. I’ve amassed a collection of a variety of colors now. I love wearing it both frontwards and backwards. It goes great with jeans, with printed pants and can also be worn over dresses or paired with skirts. Thanks to its lightweight weave it is also great thrown over your shoulders during cooler summer evenings.

It’s so feminine and I love the fit on it.

When they first started selling this sweater I found it to run large but I believe they have course-corrected the sizing and I would now recommend you take your usual size. I’m wearing a M above.

I own this sweater in a variety of colors now in both a size small and a size medium. And I also own the similar Barry Cardigan that features a V-neck. I own that in a size M.

Sézane Trousers

For their collection of pants and trousers, I always size up. For full length trousers I usually find them too long for my 5’5″ frame so I usually get them tailored to be more perfect on my height.

Sezane Size Guide Trench Coat

Sézane Scott Trench Coat

This is a classic trench coat. It has a flattering fit and all the classic details you want such as a tie waist and lapel collar. I love the camel color and thoughtful details on this well-made investment piece that I know I’ll wear for a long, long time.

I almost always size up in all Sézane Coats usually but I got this in my regular size size 6 (FR38) and it fits perfectly. It is designed to be a bit oversized which I appreciate as it makes it easy to layer over little jackets or bulkier sweaters.

In addition to the classic camel color, it also comes in a navy and a green.

I’ve owned this for years and it remains one of my most worn coats. I always gets compliments when I wear it. It is, of course, waterproof as well.

However for this style, definitely recommend sizing down. I first bought the 6 and had to size down to a 4 and still find it rather oversized.

Compared to the Sézane Scott Trench Coat, the Clyde is a more masculine, boxier trench that’s great for casual styling.

It comes in several colors and I’ve seen it all over Paris ever since it took the internet by storm. Each season they release some fun patterns, too.

Sezane Lace Blouse

Sézane Lace Blouses

Sézane always is offering 2-3 beautiful lace blouses throughout the year and I have amassed a collection of them. I think their lace pieces make up some of the most beautiful pieces they produce.

I always size up to an 8. And I always find their blouses to run small.

If you’re looking for them on site they are often referred to as “Eglatine” or something similar to refer to the lace style.

Sézane Dresses Size Guide

Sézane Dresses

I like Sézane’s midi dresses and will always size up at least one size. If it has buttons down the front, I go up two sizes to accommodate my chest.

I usually find the mini dresses Sézane makes too short for my personal preference. (Which is surprising at 5’5″!)

Sezane James Coat size guide

Sézane James Coat

I love this modern take on a peacoat-esque style. It’s similar to a blazer as well with its lapel and buttons and pockets and I just think it is so chic. The thick material is beautifully tailored and I love the navy color I chose. They have it in a few other colors as well.

This runs a bit oversized so I took my usual size of size 6. If you plan to wear it with thicker knits I’d size up.

Sezane Fall Collection I wit & whimsy

Sézane Johnson Coat

This coat is so beautifully tailored and a timeless silhouette. The sand color is a beautiful neutral but they also offer it in other colors as well. I recently added the black to my coat collection.

I reach for this coat often in Fall before temperatures really drop. If you live somewhere it doesn’t get super cold, it would make a wonderful winter coat for you.

I sized up to a size 8 as I find it runs a bit tight in the arms/shoulders.

Sézane Michele Jacket size guide

Sézane Michele Jacket

I own this blazer-jacket from Sezane in the beautiful navy and a few other seasonal fabrics. I found it to run true to size and wear it in a size 6.

It’s a classic staple that they release in a few different fabrics every season.

Sezane Navy Coat La Ligne Striped Sweater Inez Boots London Outfit Fall

Sézane Mederick Coat

A great wrap coat this is made from fabric that isn’t too heavy making it ideal for Fall and late Winter.

I found it to run true to size and took it in a size 6 but I’d size up if you want to wear it over bulkier knits.

Sézane Louise Jumper

Sézane Louise Jumper

This sweater is a great staple piece. It has cuffed sleeves with subtle buttons and I’ve worn the black so much I bought the beige, too.

The original size run of it ran a bit big so I have the black in a size Small but then purchased the beige in small and found it not roomy enough so had to exchange it for a M.

The brand this year released a similar style called the Louisa, too.

Sézane Tomboy Button Down

Sézane Tomboy Button Down

It’s often hard for me to find well-fitting button downs but my search ended when I found the Sézane Tomboy button down shirt.

After sizing up two sizes to account for the button front on my chest, it’s the perfect fit. I really like the fabric – it feels perfectly lived in.

French Girl Style Striped Tee I wit & whimsy

Sézane Colette Marinière Striped Tee

No essential French wardrobe is complete without a striped tee and the Sézane Colette tee is just as close to perfection as you’d expect. I adore my ecru/camel color but they of course also offer a classic ercu/navy as well as other seasonal color combinations from time to time as well.

It’s great on its own or layered under sweaters or blazers or cardigans. I am wearing a size M.

You can also now get your Colette tee personalized – too.cute! And such a good gift idea as well.

Sézane Betty Cardigan size guide

Sézane Betty Cardigan

An instant bestseller when it launched, this is Sezane’s take on the cardigan jacket. I loved mine in Ecru so I’ve since bought other colors, too. I sized up to a L in this style so I can wear it buttoned.

The knit material is so, so nice and I love this paired with jeans and with trousers. I find myself reaching for it constantly and often travel in it as well.

This style has been so popular for the brand they are regularly introducing new colors and spins on it.

Sezane Christie Jacket

Sézane Christie Jacket

A beautiful blazer that has such a nice material and wears really well either with matching pants as a suit or more casually as I did with jeans.

I took an 8 in it because I wanted it to have a boyfriend fit. It comes in so many colors and the brand often does seasonal drops of it as well such as a tartan during the holiday season. I recently added the black to my rotation as well.

Sézane Shoe Size Guide

Most of Sezane’s shoes aren’t my personal style so I don’t own a lot or shop the shoes often but I do own a few pair. I have found them to run true to size.

Sezane Summer Dress

Sandals

Their collection of sandals are often retro inspired and many feature metallic leathers. I have found their shoes to fit true to size.

Sezane Brut Sexy Jeans

Sézane Jeans Size Guide

In France the Brut Sexy high waisted jean has a cult like following. The Sezane Brut Sexy Jeans are a great skinny meet straight jean. If you want to venture into more straight leg from skinny – definitely try these. I love the quality of these jeans and the fact that you feel held in but still comfortable. They are made from a cotton canvas with a touch of elastane for extra comfort without being too stretchy. I love where they hit me at the ankle (I am 5’5″ and didn’t need to hem them!)

As with their trousers, I also size up in their denim. I’ve tried a variety of their styles but most are too long on me and therefore not the most flattering and I don’t love having to hem my denim, personally. Furthermore, many of the Sézane denim styles are also made in too stretchy of denim for my own personal preference. Therefore I stick to my other favorite jean styles.

Seen styled with these darling patent mary janes.

Thanks for this great guide! I’m about to dip my toe into Sezane and this really helped. I’m also 5’5′ and have curves. You sold me on some jeans and that button-down! I have such a hard time finding a button-down that I don’t look like I’m playing dress up in. That one looks amazing on you.

I am so glad you found it helpful! Another good button down to look at is AYR’s The Deep End if you want a lighter fabric. But I do love the Tomboy and have for 5+ years – just be sure to size up if you have a chese!

Thank you so much for this! I’m 5’6 and 145, narrow hipped, but with 34DD – I’m really unsure how to purchase for tops. My arms are not thin either 🙁 so it’s tricky. What would you recommend?
