A good button down is one of those simple pieces that upon putting it on instantly makes you feel more put together. But they’re not all created equal. So today I’m using some older photos to share my favorite brands and styles of button downs that I own.
The Best Button Downs
As someone with a bigger chest, button downs can sometimes be hard for me to wear. So I’m finally sharing the brands I trust and own for good button downs.
Sezane.
Hands down one of the best things I own is The Tomboy Button Down Shirt from Sezane. I was SO happy when I found this shirt. It is everything I have ever wanted in a casual yet put together classic piece and it fits so well. As I usually do in Sezane, I sized up to the FR40 size and it is perfect. Despite loads of wear the piece has held up beautifully. You can see it on me here, here, here & here. Can’t recommend this button down enough.
Grayson.
Grayson’s whole mission is to offer the perfect button down shirt in a variety of fabrics. I own this one and this one and love them. The quality is great and I love supporting this female founded small business. Now through May 10th you can use code WITWHIMSY25 for 25% off your purchase on Grayson’s site by the way! I wear Size 3 in the brand. Grayson is also available on Nordstrom and on Anthropologie if you prefer to shop there.
Court & Rowe.
This brand launched last year and I love its affordable, preppy pieces but they particularly have a lot of fun button downs.
Madewell.
Madewell makes the best chambray button downs in my opinion. I have a couple in varying styles. This one is my go-to and favorite of the bunch. I’ve owned it for years and years and the wash is actually perfect to pair with jeans and denim shorts.
Equipment.
Equipment is a pricey brands but the quality shows. I’ve had my Equipment silk button downs for over six years (if you want a fun throwback as proof see here) and they look good as new which is hard to achieve with silk. The Equipment Slim Signature Blouse is my favorite. I have it in black and white.
Everlane.
If you like the look of the Equipment blouses but not the price tag, Everlane makes similar silk button downs that are good quality. They don’t hold up as well as Equipment but I do own a few and like them. The Clean Silk Relaxed Shirt is my personal favorite style from the brand (seen on me here) and the Washable Silk Relaxed Shirt is nearly identical to the Equipment blouse in look but about 50% of the price. I also really like the look of the new puff sleeve short sleeve blouse they recently released as well as the Clean Silk Notch Shirt.

p.s. how to build a French girl inspired wardrobe and some pretty spring things.
Another busty woman, wondering if you’ve ever tried https://the-shirt.com/? I’ve been looking at their shirts but don’t know any real people who have tried them.
I’ve never heard of it before! Sorry I can’t be of more help!
I also like Club Monaco’s silk button downs which I have in black and white. Initially I got my first one as a gift and was thinking I would return it since I never wore button downs at the time, but decided to keep it and now wear them all the time. They are beautiful in person and really elevate any outfit.
Good to know! I love Club Monaco but haven’t shopped there in a while so glad you reminded me about the brand!
