Best Lipstick Shades for Fall

With the return of Fall, it also comes time to explore new lip colors. I am a fan of switching up my makeup seasonally, personally. I go for more sheer, glowy products in the summer and then as cooler weather arrives, I reach for darker lipstick shades, more matte finishes and more berry, plum, burgundys in my makeup.

I have been really into lip colors and trying out new formulas this year so today I wanted to share some of my favorite go-to Fall lip colors. If you’re looking for an easy but impactful way to switch up your makeup routine for the new season – this post is for you!

Best Lipstick Shades for Fall

Best Lipstick Shades For Fall

Below I’m sharing my personal favorites but of course each of these lip colors comes in a variety of shades so you can choose which one may be suitable for your own skin tone. I have fair skin and therefore cool undertones so I tend to stay away from brown lip colors or lip colors with blue undertones. A lot of Fall lip colors have more blue undertones as it is common in more berry and red shades so shopping for Fall and Winter lip colors can be really hit or miss for me!

In this roundup, I’ve also included lip glosses and tinted lip balms in case that’s more your speed. I know not everyone is down for a highly pigmented lipstick most days!

Ilia Beauty Lipstick in Rosette

Ilia Beauty Color Block Lipstick in Shade Rosette

This is a bestselling shade for Ilia Beauty for good reason. It’s a perfect nude pink shade. This clean lipstick has high impact color with minimal effort and I find it has good staying power for all day wear. It is full coverage and has a creamy finish.

There are over a dozen shades – many of which would be perfect for Fall if you’re in the market for some clean beauty lipsticks.

Victoria Beckham Bitten Lip Tint in Bisou

This lip color is a really cool stain-gloss combo. It’s rather sheer but you can build up the color. It sort of feels like a serum going on thanks to the lightweight gel texture. There’s a doe foot applicator for precise application and it features a lot of hydrating ingredients so lips feel cushioned and never dry or sticky.

It is vegan-friendly, dermatologist tested, gluten-free and soy-free. And apparently you can get  Victoria’s signature pout by layering the blush-hued tint of this lip product over a lip liner.

Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss Shade 722

Chanel Rouge Coco Gloss in Shade 722

One of my all time favorite glosses for year round wear. Shade 722 is so flattering if you have lighter colored lips and it is the perfect topper over more matte finish lip colors if you’re looking for some gloss. I always get compliments when I wear this!

This gloss is super high shine and leaves lips visibly smooth and plumps lips. I also love the innovative dual-sided applicator. It ensures optimal, even coverage and is so easy to apply on the go. The shades are iridescent (but not obnoxious) and really give a cool lacquered effect.

This gloss is also non-sticky and has coconut oil, peptides and vitamin E so my lips feel amazing whenever I am wearing this.

Kosas Lipstick in Stardust

Kosas Weightless Lipstick in Shade Stardust

This warm tone sheer neutral clean shade of lipstick goes on beautifully and really hydrates lips because it has active botanical oils. It has a comfy feel to it and I like all the fun shades it comes in. Stardust goes on a bit more berry on my lip color which has it feeling perfect for Fall always.

I like that the brand offers a set of three popular shades, too.

This is a great shade for the holidays, too. And perfect to wear with an all black look!

Makeup By Mario Plumping Lip Serum in Mauve Glow

Makeup by Mario Moisture Glow Plumping Lip Serum in Shade Mauve Glow

Love a plumped up lip effect? Look no further than these gorgeous lip serums. They go on like a lip balm and instantly give volume to your lips and are so deliciously creamy and cushiony. I have a couple shades (can’t get enough!) but Mauve Glow is truly perfect for that sheer but impactful fall glow for your lips.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Satin Lipstick Collection in Shade 93

YSL Rouge Pur Couture Satin Lipstick Collection in Shade 93

I’ve been wearing this ruby color for over six years. I retire it every summer and bring it out every fall. This satin finish lipstick has such a beautifully glossy shine and you get color payoff in just one swipe because of the super creamy formula.

I like this one for being megawatt shine with staying power.

Westman Atelier Squeaky Clean Lip Balm in Shade Garconne

If you love that just-bitten look and more sheer lip colors, grab one of these gorgeous lip balms. I own them in every shade but grab for Garconne in the Fall especially. And Nana is the shade I wear year round. The perfect cool beige shade.

Merit Beauty Bronzer and Lipstick

Merit Beauty Signature Lip in Shade L’Avenue

For some more moody Fall color, I recommend the berry brown shade L’Avenue from Merit Beauty. This is a good lightweight, well priced lipstick. There’s no heaviness of more traditional lipstick formulas and it also soothes lips and helps to diffuse the appearance of fine lines which is great for aging lips.

. . .

And, are you looking for more staying power for your lipsticks? I highly recommend you line your lips first and fill them in with a corresponding lip liner. I like the ones from Charlotte Tilbury and the ones from Chanel. And then always be sure to use a setting spray as well! I swear by the Urban Decay All Nighter Spray.

And if you hate lipsticks that feel overly drying, be sure to look for those that tout the inclusion of oils or hyaluronic acid – this means they will be a more hydrating formula!

I hope you found this post helpful! If you have any favorite lip colors you always reach for in the Fall – I would love to hear them in the Comments below!

Love a good red. Violette_fr has a great liquid red that stays forever, and I’m a really big fan of Besame who pulls inspiration from different time periods. Both women owned small businesses which I love as well.
