Fall is the season my most inner French girl comes out. I love leaning into classic staple pieces that can be mixed and matched – no issues with being a repeat offender here!
Parisian chic is a mindset of course but I truly love the silhouettes of classic French fashion and the je ne sais quoi of French girl fashion so today I am sharing a variety of French Style Fall Outfit looks to help inspire you as you try and achieve the French chic of French women.
To update the post this year I have also added a variety of shoppable collages that you can use as inspiration or Pin to save for reference later.
As we welcome the cooler months of Fall and the French celebrate la rentrée (re-entry), I can’t wait to put together French style Fall outfits using the pieces I have in my wardrobe currently. A Fall wardrobe in my opinion should be made up of a lot of quality investment pieces. French girl style is all about making classic pieces work for you on a regular basis when you mix and match them.
I always love looking at Parisian style when I visit Paris as the founder of En Route to Rêverie because French woman often get the effortless, laid back yet feminine and put together look so, so right. A French Fall Fashion wardrobe through my POV will bring together feminine, classic pieces and mix in a bit of edge. I always look to fashion essentials first – those staples you can use as building blocks. And there is no time of year I love to do this more than during the Fall style season!
French Style Fall Outfits
As you plan your outfits just keep thinking what makes a French Wardrobe Staple?
French fashion is intended by unfussy, comfortable, practical and yet endlessly chic. It’s less street style forward than places like New York City and instead French women often tend to lean into silhouettes and styles that have been popular for decades.
Don’t forget that French women also love modern accessories to make a look their own. Consider adding an investment bag in a neutral color to your rotation and some simple gold jewelry as well.
And read on below for what I consider must-haves for French Style Outfits. If you’re looking for specific pieces I’m wearing in the below photos – if the piece is still available you’ll find it in my Meghan’s Closet shop page.
Of course, “French Style” is a stereotype of sorts. There is no one French style. So I want to caveat that this post and styling is through one lens of my personal style which is all about refined staples.
If you’re looking for even more pieces, don’t miss the French Staples section of The Shop!
Monochromatic Tones
I love pairing monochromatic tones and it is something you often see women in Paris doing. When in doubt, pick a color palette and select pieces from the palette.

Camel Blazer
The Sezane Christie Blazer is great and I own it in two colors in size 6.
If you don’t have a black blazer that you feel great in, there’s no time like the present. It’s an instant mood booster and can be restyled throughout the year in loads of ways. I never go to Paris in the Fall without packing a black blazer.
This one is a great affordable option.
Tweed Mini Skirt with Tights and Ankle Booties
I love wearing tweed in the Fall and skirts is a great way to incorporate this Fall fabric into your outfits.
Here are my favorite tights!

Simple and put together, add a wrap cardigan and pair it with your favorite Audrey Hepburn inspired black jeans.

Striped tees have reigned supreme in French style outfits for decades. Pull out your favorite like the French girl inspired Sézane Colette Marinière Striped Tee and pair it with a classic pair of loafers for a bit of preppy style.
Timeless Black Sweater with Ballet Flats
Simple is usually the name of the game when it comes to French Style Fall Outfits. This outfit was purely inspired by Audrey Hepburn.

Trousers with Sneakers
A comfortable pair of trousers paired with sneakers is the perfect cool girl French inspired outfit. I like to do monochromatic looks with my trousers but you could also add a contrasting oversized blazer for a bit more edge.
Wearing above these Aritzia Effortless pants. Size 8. Alongside my forever favorite white sneakers.
Slip Skirt and Boots
This J.Crew slip skirt is so versatile. Top it with a leather jacket in Fall.
I paired mine above with these sleek Sarah Flint boots.

A timeless color combo loved by the French.

The Sezane Clyde Trench (sized down to a 4) and Sambas are seen all over the streets of Paris on stylish French women.

Monochromatic Look with a Ballet Flat
I think wearing ivory and white in Fall is such an unexpected sartorial moment.
Pairing a white tweed lady jacket with white wide leg denim is an easy way to take your love of tweed blazers into Spring or Summer. The above tweed jacket from ba&sh is one of my closet MVPs, I own it in multiple colors!
My personal go-to stores to look for other little jackets are Zara, Mango, H&M , Talbots, Bloomingdale’s Aqua brand, Ann Taylor, Veronica Beard, and J.Crew.
Try a wideleg jean for an on-trend, of the moment silhouette. I am wearing this pair above in size 28.

Classic Button Down Shirt with Chanel Slingbacks
A button down is a wardrobe staple for French women. You can pair it with jeans or a printed pant or a black pant – the styling options are endless.
I have gotten more wear out of my Sezane button down (size US 8 / FR 40) than I could have ever imagined.
It is so timeless in style and such high quality that it wears well time after time. I love it tucked under jeans or into midi skirts or work pants.
Super French in style is also this oversized button down that goes so well with jeans and ponte pants but also layers under sweaters and blazers well. I sized down to a S in it.
I also really love the Everlane silk blouse for layering under sweaters. And this silk blouse I own (size M) is so beautifully made and extremely versatile.
Wool Blazer and Striped Knits
And of course you know by now I love a striped knit. All my favorites are by the brand La Ligne. I love wearing a heavy wool blazer (6) atop them before the weather arrives when you need a bigger jacket.
I believe in investing in quality cashmere sweaters that you can wear over and over again without much upkeep (poor quality cashmere will pill easily). And I recommend the quality of the Jenni Kayne Cashmere sweaters. And I have a lot of Sezane’s affordable knitwear, too.
For a more affordable option, Everlane fits the bill but you will have to remove pills after a lot of wear. Nothing a little fabric shaver can’t handle though!

Trousers + Sweater + Ballet Flats
These are the J.Crew trousers I won’t shut up about. I wear an 8. These are *so* good.
And this Sezane sweater I got so much wear out of I just ordered the new beige color.
I sized down to a S in it.
Mini Skirt
I love it paired with these chic suede calf boots that pair so well with my skirts and dresses.
I like to find mine at & Other Stories.
High Waisted Jeans with a Stripe Tee and Blazer
Grab your favorite high waisted jeans to lengthen your frame and then add a striped tee and a jacket.
Classic Blazer with Highwaisted Jeans and Pumps
A go-to look for every business meeting I have in the Fall.
Silk Scarf
One of my favorite ways to accessorize my French woman-inspired wardrobe is to add a silk scarf onto my look.
I do so by adding it to the handle or strap of the bag I am carrying or around my neck.
Plaid Blazer with Ankle Boots
I have quite a collection of plaid blazes. I love to pair them with suede or leather ankle boots. Wearing this blazer in size 4.
Another take on the look:
These Veronica Beard jeans from the brand that I *love* (size 28). And this beautiful plaid Sezane blazer I hope they’ll restock (size 6).
Also the Staud Wally boots I got last Winter and wear so much thanks to being so comfortable. They have a variety of styles and colors of the silhouette for this year!
Sweater Dress
Perfect for Fall & Winter, a sweater dress with knee high boots and a good tailored jacket is a great way to look chic from day to night.
I own this affordable style in two colors (size L).
I also love pairing a sweater dress with sleek sneakers.

White Blouse with a Classic Car Coat
A classic wool coat is the perfect timeless silhouette to top any outfit in a simple, French inspired style. I recommend this classic car coat by Sezane. The Sezane Johnson coat is so stylish on (size up) and incredibly versatile.

I also love adding a ruffled collar top under coats or sweaters in the Fall. Perfect for a feminine French detail.
French Wardrobe Staples for Fall
Kitten Heel Boots
I’d always heard good things about this brand and eyed a lot of their styles so finally invested in this on-trend, yet classic pair of oh so comfortable and walkable boots. The leather is gorgeous. You’ll see boots like this all over Paris in Fall and Winter.
Oversized coat with slingbacks
This & Other Stories coat is so French – timeless and classic. & Other Stories does such good coats! I size down to a Small in nearly every style I own from them. I own this coat in both black and navy and they are hands down my most worn Fall and Winter Coats.
Paired with my favorite Chanel Slingbacks.
Tweed Dress
A nod to Paris in the 70s, try a tweed dress. Above I am wearing this cute tweed number (size L).
Black Blazer and Jeans and Kitten Mules
I love this outfit as a formulaic look I wear.
Wearing this silk blouse (M), this amazing blazer I can’t recommend enough (6) and these Reformation jeans (sized up twice to a 29).
Styled with these Manolo mules.
Shirtdress
The excellent Tuckernuck Chloe dress is perfection for year-round wear but I love it in Fall.
Wearing a size L. So many colors available.
Styled with these Manolo mules.
Plaid Blazer and Loafers
Perfectly preppy and a very French take on masculine meets feminine.
I’m wearing this perfect-for-Fall Veronica Beard blazer (size 6) and these classic Freda Salvador loafers.
Code WITWHIMSY15 for 15% off your first Freda order!
Trench Coat with Stripes
A timeless trench will always be a good investment. I like to layer mine over my leather jacket when I am in Paris to handle the unpredictable weather in the Fall but I wear my trench styles all the time in New York as well. Both in Spring and in Fall.
This style is classic from J.Crew as is this one from Sezane both of which I own (I’m wearing the Sezane one above in a size 6).
If you’re on the taller size and like a bit more masculine cute, this one I just got from Sezane is also very cool and on trend. I sized down to a 4.
Pair your trench with the timeless French girl inspired Sézane Colette Marinière Striped Tee.

A tweed mini and tights are the best combo. Love it for fall!

I agree with the tweed mini/tights/ankle boot combo. Stellar look for fall! Another outfit of yours that I love, not pictured here, is a black boucle jacket by Mango worn with a Chanel brooch, jeans, and booties. I have totally 100% copied that look (purchased the jacket and a Chanel brooch) and it never fails to put an extra gloss on the days I wear it. Thank you!
So glad you enjoyed the post!
Hope you try it!
