I’ve talked about closet MVPs as they relate to my personal style on the blog a lot but I define them as those essentials that you’ll reach for over and over again. They are well made. You won’t tire of them. They aren’t trendy. They can be worn on multiple occasions, styled in different ways. These essentials are how I build my wardrobe staples a piece at a time.
New Spring Essentials
Too often I think people rely on spring trends as a way of guiding what they are buying for the season. But I instead look for things in shapes and colors that I know I’ll want to wear past just one year. I want pieces that make me feel good, that are versatile and can be worn a variety of ways.
Two new essentials in my closet are this perfectly drape-y (and not see through) white silk tee and a black leather tote. I have this Cuyana tote in two other colors because it is that great. For my upcoming trip to France, I wanted to have a black one that’ll go with most of my wardrobe and fit loads of stuff as a carry-on.
A white t shirt is such a closest essential and I think a silk version is so pretty and elevated for spring. Most white silk is far too sheer (I hate when you can see bra lines through silk tees) but this tee is the perfect weight and material. I also love the short sleeves and the fact that it is slightly longer in the back than the front. It’s such a a great, flattering everyday essential.
I’ve worn it nearly a dozen times since getting it last month and have it packed up for France as well. While many people always balk at traveling with silk, I have no problem with it because I’m never without Downy Wrinkle Releaser. I stock up on the travel size bottles – ha! (I’ve been using it since freshman year of college. I pretty much only iron things when it is a dire situation – I kid you not.)
I love an all white look in Spring and you can’t go wrong with a good pair of white denim. I prefer a clean white pair that looks crisp and chic all at once. I love mine to be high waisted so I can tuck in a tank or lightweight sweater.
Other spring essentials I am loving this season? Straight jeans, my trusty jean jacket, comfy midi dresses and flats to wear all spring and summer long. If you want a peek at what I’m wearing this spring you’ll find it in Things I’ve Bought and Loved Recently.

Please explain the ripped knees on the white pants. I do not understand this fashion trend at all!
Hi Mary! To each their own no doubt but I’m a denim girl through and through and love to mix up jeans with some distressed pairs 🙂
