I’ve talked about closet MVPs here before but I define them as those essentials that you’ll reach for over and over again. They are well made. You won’t tire of them. They aren’t trendy. They can be worn on multiple occasions, styled in different ways.
New Spring Essentials
Too often I think people rely on spring trends as a way of guiding what they are buying for the season. But I instead look for things in shapes and colors that I know I’ll want to wear past just one year. I want pieces that make me feel good, that are versatile and can be worn a variety of ways.
Two new essentials in my closet are this perfectly drape-y (and not see through) white silk tee and a black leather tote. I have this Cuyana tote in two other colors because it is that great. For my upcoming trip to France, I wanted to have a black one that’ll go with most of my wardrobe and fit loads of stuff as a carry-on.
The silk tee is god-send. Most white silk is far too sheer (I hate when you can see bra lines through silk tees) but this tee is the perfect weight and material. I also love the short sleeves and the fact that it is slightly longer in the back than the front. It’s such a a great, flattering everyday essential. I’ve worn it nearly a dozen times since getting it last month and have it packed up for France as well. While many people always balk at traveling with silk, I have no problem with it because I’m never without Downy Wrinkle Releaser. I stock up on the travel size bottles – ha! (I’ve been using it since freshman year of college. I pretty much only iron things when it is a dire situation – I kid you not.)
Paired these two new essentials with white jeans (I love a mostly monochromatic look) and my favorite espadrilles that I’ve been wearing non-stop. They aren’t too high which makes them really comfortable.
Other spring essentials I am loving this season? Straight jeans, my trusty jean jacket, comfy midi dresses and flats to wear all spring and summer long. If you want a peek at what I’m wearing this spring you’ll find it in Things I’ve Bought and Loved Recently.
If you’d like to get more spring outfit inspiration, here are some more recent looks:
A utility jacket in a light color is perfect for chillier Spring days. This one is really affordable!
Midi dresses in florals are perfect this time of year and all through summer.
I love an easy, breezy white midi dress that you can dress up or dress down.
Shorts but make ’em sleek and stylish.
A lightweight, neutral color blazer paired with white jeans is a favorite look of mine for spring.
A classic trench coat paired with stripes is always a good combination.
I love a tweed blazer in Spring when in pretty, soft, neutral colors.
