Staud Wells Midi Dress Styled Three Ways

As we round out this year’s Look Back Week, I am looking forward today to sharing with you some of my personal favorite purchases of the entire year. It’s always an endeavor to look back at what I purchased, where I invested and what brands I came back to time and time again. In 2023 I continued to really prioritized investment purchases that I would wear again and again and use again and again. It is safe to say you will no doubt be seeing all these pieces repeatedly this year.

So in the latest installment of Things I’ve Bought and Loved Recently, I present to you my favorite 2023 purchases. And don’t forget I always share my newest purchases with my newsletter subscribers first.

For other favorite purchases of the year, don’t miss my Amazon Favorites of 2023 and my Best Beauty Products I Tried in 2023 posts.

Things I Bought and Loved – 2023 Edition

A quick editor’s note that I edited this list down to items that were largely still in stock!

Favorite Purchases 2023 Things I Bought and Loved

1. Waimari Lace Midi Dress

Every summer I head to Net a Porter to explore newer to me brands and Waimari became one of my most worn brands of the year after I bought this dress. I went on to buy it in White plus another dress from the brand. It’s a Columbian brand that includes such beautiful details. I wore this dress countless times all summer long and it garnered compliments every time. I have it in a size L. Bonus: it is currently on sale!

This is a brand I will no doubt turn to this year again. I already have this dress on my 2024 wish list for this coming summer.

2. Staud Wells Dress

I first bought this dress in white in 2022 and went on to buy it in navy and in black in 2023. The full skirt is just so wonderful on it – so my style. And it is incredibly versatile to style, too! It was a 2023 bestseller with you guys as well. I wear this in an 8.

Available in additional colors HERE.

3. Jenni Kayne Rove Dress

This dress in black was one of my most worn pieces in 2022 so I bought the ivory and wore it so much all summer long. It was previously called the Rhode dress and now is called the Rove dress. You can see the black on me in my Jenni Kayne Apparel Review. I wear it in a L.

4. Rhode Lulani Dress

I bought this dress for my Christmas trip to London and it instantly became a favorite. I love the fit on it (I sized up to an 8).

5. Chanel Medium Double Flap Bag

While I technically purchased this in 2022 it didn’t get worn until 2023. (Does anyone else keep major purchases in the box/bag for weeks before getting over the buyer’s shock!?) Needless to say this bag I had saved for for over a decade became my most worn of the year.

6. Bash Paris Meredith Jacket

This jacket in ivory was one of my most worn pieces of both 2022 and 2023 so I bought the black as soon as it was restocked in early 2023 and went on it to wear it countless times all year. With dresses, with skirts, with jeans, with trousers…the fit and quality of this piece are so good. I have it in a M.

7. Jenni Kayne Cedar Room Spray

A room spray is one of my favorite little luxuries at home and this one is elevated and cozy and not over powering.

8. La Ligne Lean Lines Sweater

It should be no surprise that a La Ligne piece made it onto my list because of my love for this investment brand. This lightweight cashmere sweater has a great fit to it, is wonderful to layer and the extra long sleeves with a stripe cuff make for a chic detail sticking out under a coat. I wore my first colorway of black-brown so much I went on to buy the ivory-black and the beige-ivory colorways throughout the year and wore all three constantly.

9. Catbird Hall of Mirrors Stud Earrings*

These beautiful earrings make a subtle statement and barely left my ears after acquiring them over the summer.

10. Ring Concierge Graduated Single Prong Diamond Ring

I bought this after seeing it on my friend’s middle finger. It’s my ideal type of subtle sparkle and I ended up wearing it nearly every day of the year.

11. J.Crew Drapery Crepe Trouser

I think we built an army of women wearing these trousers last year. A top seller for sure. They are so comfortable, fit so well and are such a versatile to pant to style. I took them on every single trip to Europe I took last year wearing them on the plane (yep, that comfortable.) You can see them on HERE and HERE.

I recommend sizing up for a more slouchy fit. I wear them in an 8.

12. Dorsey Lab Grown Diamond Moss Necklace

I took the leap into the lab grown diamond trend last year and this necklace was the first thing I reached for for every dressier occasion I had last year. It’s such a good sparkle. Mine is the Rhodium Coated Brass 17.5 inches style.

13. Celine Trifold Bag

This was a bit of an impulse purchase in Paris in February and ended up being my reward to myself for working 28 days straight. It’s technically a “wallet on chain” but I use it as a little clutch and I love that it also comes with a strap if you want to use it as a crossbody bag.

14. Celine Cateye Sunglasses

My black Celine cateye sunglasses are one of my most worn pair so when I saw they brought back the tortoise style when in Paris in September, I nabbed them.

15. Vuori Clean Elevation Legging*

We all know how much I love Vuori by now and their new Clean Elevation legging were such a good buy in 2022. They are so crazy soft and the pair of leggings I reach for most often during colder temperatures.

They fit TTS – I wear the M.

Favorite Purchases 2023 Things I Bought and Loved

1. Sezane Ralph Jacket*

This oversized blazer is a beautiful, heavy wool and so my style. I got it in a size 6 and love it. See it on HERE.

2. Alice + Olivia Faux Leather Trousers

The fit and material of these trousers are gorgeous. They are crazy buttery soft and became one of my most reached for pieces all year. I styled them in my Fall Date Night Outfit Ideas post and can’t recommend them enough. I sized up to an 8.

3. J.Crew Stevie Knee High Suede Boots*

These boots are beautiful in person and the perfect heel height for logging lots of steps. See them on in my Holiday Outfit Inspiration with J.Crew post.

4. Veronica Beard Miller Blazer

I had wanted this blazer for years and years and finally bit the bullet to style it for my One Midi Dress, Three Ways post and then styled it with jeans all Fall and Winter long. I wear it in a size 6.

5. Apple Watch

I am so glad I finally got this watch. I don’t wear it every day (particularly when traveling and shooting) but always when at home and it is great for tracking my steps, my Peloton rides and reminding me to get up and move while working.

6. Petite Plume Pajamas

These pajamas are so crazy soft that they are a joy to don whenever I do. I wear a size M.

7. Shashi Biance Cuff Bracelet

This brand is one of my go-tos for affordable jewelry that holds up really well and this dainty sparkly cuff was my newest acquisition. It adds the perfect amount of subtle sparkle for evenings out.

8. Veronica Beard Lars Jacket*

Veronica Beard is one of my all time favorite investment brands and her jackets are so special in particular. Those that I own get so much wear and always garner compliments. This Lars jacket has beautiful tones for Fall and I wore it with a matching skirt and with jeans so much.

9. Celine Medium Cabas Phantom Tote

This bag had been on my wish list for years and years. I finally bit the bullet last Fall and I’ve been carrying it as my carry on bag and work tote ever since. The Medium fits loads so it is great for travel in particular. I love its understated elegance.

10. Chanel Ballet Flats

We all know by now how much I wear my original Chanel Ballet Flats. My BFF joined me in Paris last November to buy a pair for herself and when I pulled back a door I saw this colorway of all neutral and swooned. They came home with me and I can’t wait to wear them a lot this year. They’ll be particularly great with a lot of my spring and summer dresses.

11. Harper Wilde Bliss Bralette

I was so happy to test out this undergarments brand and then go onto work with them last year. This bralette became the bra I kept reaching for when traveling or for WFH days.

12. Harper Wilde Bliss Thong

These thongs are so, so comfortable. I got a couple through my collaboration with Harper Wilde and then started out this year buying half a dozen more myself because I find them so great.

13. Abercrombie Collarless Tweed Jacket

If you’re still not shopping at Abercombie again, consider this gem of a jacket find a sign you should be! Fits TTS – I have the M. See it on HERE.

Two more items I loved this year:

Theory Tweed Jacket

A beautiful jacket that got so much wear from me. I found it fit TTS and wear it in a size 6.

Marlow Pillows*

These are so comfy and I love that they are adjustable should your preferences change or you have guests sleeping on them!

My favorite books of the year?

The Three Lives of Alix St. Pierre

Natasha Lester writes some of my very favorite books so it was no surprise that this one – centered around the house of Dior in post-war France was an easy and well loved read.

The True Love Experiment

I love the writing of the Christina Lauren duo and this book might just be my favorite they’ve ever written. It follows the story of Felicity “Fizzy” Chen who takes a leap to join a reality dating show not knowing that what was happening off camera was the real attention grabber.

Meet Me at The Lake

I loved, loved, loved this book by Carley Fortune. The exact kind of nostalgic romantic read I want in the summer. Related: 14 Books Perfect for Summer.

Romantic Comedy

This adorable and witty book by Curtis Sittenfeld is an utter delight and the perfect dose of escapism meets celebrity wonderment.
